Well.. yesterday I dropped off my 300 ultra at the gunsmith along with a brake and extended magazine box... then today I called and told him not to do it. Instead Yank the barrel off true the action and ill order a barrel.. I'm gonna build a 375 ultra that is hopefully around 8 lbs. I'm gonna do a relatively light stainless barrel with the 7/8" car brake that I was doing to put on my 300 ultra. Not sure what stock to use I may stick with my LSS stock for now but I think it'll get something with an aluminum bedding block. I am thinking I want to shoot a 270 tsx possibly a 300 in a tsx or an accubond or something. No smk's I want to shoot a well constructed bullet with high weight retention. Not sure what twist I need. I am thinking. 12 possibly a 10?? Anyway. That's the new plan. So ill be listing my 300 ultra reloading dies and components soon

Way to go Mike!

Your decision making seems to be similar to mine.:D My first order for a custom rig was in 22 cal and a call back to the smith was for a 277 cal. Luckily the action was good for either.

After a DIY 338 RUM that shoots lights out it needed to be ramped up to an Edge or Allen Mag to gain any umph. Luckily several fellas here had projects that weren't working out for them for one reason or another and I snapped up the immediately available components and jumped to the 375 category.

Whoo Hooo for you!!!

If, after you get that sucker up'n runnin', I'm bettin' you have thoughts of "This rig would be great for everything I shoot from chucks to elfalants." :)

He already has a 338 only where to go now is up.

i knew that. i just thought since he's doing a lightweight build a 338 would be better suited to the size he's talking about. it seems like you would want a big, long barreled, heavier platform for the 375.

i'm all for new things, and i say go for it and have a blast.

i was just curious, because in the size/weight he was talking about you may get a little better long range performance from shooting the 250's? in a shorter barrel.

good stuff, and looking forward to a range report from the 375:)

Im considering the same build... But putting a longer throat and trying to make a long ranger out of it with a 30-32" barrel.. good luck with it!
