I'm going to buy a new scope for a .22, any opinions on which scope is best for under $300 with a max power of 12-16x? Buckmaster, vx-1, fullfield, or anything else?

There are several scopes on that price range that would work. My first choice would be the 4-12 Vortex Diamondback. We sell them for less than $300. $269 if I remember right.

The Bushnell Elite would be another great choice. But Vortex wins in the customer service and warranty dept.

My .02

I can't disagree with that, but the Nikon Prostaff and Buckmaster series are worth looking at. I have both and love them!

Nikon makes excellent scopes. Vortex just came to mind first since they are based in the US and the warranty is the best there is.

Essentially you get Leupolds warranty at a lower price.

I currently have a Nikon BuckMaster 6-18x and a Monarch 6.5-20 and both are good scopes. The Monarch I have had close to 20 yrs and recently (last year) sent it back to Nikon to have the Adjustable Objective (AO) calibrated. Full warranty. Think I paid $7 to ship it to Cale-forn-e-i-a. Had it back on my rifle in two weeks. Very smooth. JohnnyK.

JohnnyK--- Monarch's are GREAT scopes (one of the best on the market) in my opinion. Worth every penny!

VX II leupolds will sell in that price range. I caught them on sale at cabelas a couple of years back and bought a 3x9x50 if I remember right for about 275.00.

If you watch Ebay you can find some decent Leupold's with the 40mm OBJ even VX III's occasionally in that price range.

I've bought a good many used Leupold's and never hesitated on them because if they do have a problem Leupold will fix them as their warranty reallyh is a "lifetime warranty".

A pretty decent bargain scope in that price range as well would be the SWFA Super Snipers. If you can get past that stupid looking chicken head logo that is... .

I know for rimfire that muellers are good scopes. I have one on a .22mag and its great. Usually sell for around $130 I think. My 2 cents:rolleyes:

I agree. A buddy of mine uses the Meuller, and it is excellent glass and quality for the money. I'm also a Vortex fan. I put an Sightron SI on a buddy of mines 22LR. It's a pretty nice piece of glass for the money also.

Good point. I was short on cash one time and needed a decent scope so I bought one of the original Sightron 3.5-10x50's as a "temp".

That was over twenty years ago and it now sets atop an M1-A where it's been for the last five years or so.

That was the fifth or sixth rifle it had ridden on.

Never a problem, good glass/clarity and light gathering. My buddy who bought the M1-A thinks it's the best glass he's ever owned... .gun)

NIkon makes a really good rim fire scope I can't remember the price but it should be around your price point.

There are several decent brands made in Japan around the $300 mark. The biggest bunch are made by Optical Light Works across several brands. For something not made in Japan at that price, I would look at Burris.
