I'm looking for a good set of lightweight bases and rings for a model 700 338 RUM. The scope I will be using will be 1". This is not my long range gun and scope is going to have a max of 10-12x so a 20 MOA rail is not needed. What do you guys suggest?

The EGW aluminum base and 1 inch rings are very lite and impressive, just set up a light weight rig with this combo. You could go with Nigh Force 2 piece picatinny's or have your smith mill the EGW into a two piece to save weight as well. Either way very rugged and light weight. Spendy but first class would be the Murphy Precision titanium set. They can make you just about anything, like a 2 piece base. On a super custom that would be a very rugged and light first class system.

Talleys 1 piece rings are pretty hard to beat in this application and very inexpensive
I really liked the look of those. I was hoping someone would mention them. I read some where on here that someone had to do a good bit of lapping on a set they had, is that common? I'm not a big fan of lapping rings, I would rather buy quality rings to begin with.

I lap all rings because you can't always count on the reciever to be square the rings should be fairly square though. I Have had good luck With them
I'll probably give the Talley's a try. I really like the design and price. Thanks for the recommendation. What height would I need for a 50mm scope? Would a med work?
