Tikka T3 factory sporter barrel 24" 1-10 twist. Will the 165's stabilize. Any starting load data would be appreciated. I have a ton of RL19 laying around, would the reloader work well with this bullet? Thanks

I just finished working up a load for my T3 and this bullet with H1000. 66.5 grains, Norma brass, CCI 250 primers, 20 thousandths off the lands = 2835 fps, SD = 9, and .25 moa accuracy at 200.

All I can say is that I am pleased. I'll probably try some RL17 to see if I can edge some more velocity since my guns seems to love it.

Now I'm going to start testing it out at longer distances to get an actual BC since I am sure the published one is optimistic.

You can try the RL17, but it is my experience that the RL17 is a better powder for the medium weight for caliber bullets. It will allow you to use more of the case capacity. The heavy weight caliber bullets I find it better to use the slower powder for better ES. It may work for you as I don't own a 270WSM, but it is what I found with my 300WSM using 210grn bullets. I have experienced the same thing with is why I started with H1000.

Mostly I like to try new things to give me even more of an excuse to go shooting. :D

My experience has been 130gr and up go with the slow burn, 110's with R17 is another story, they smoke out there but the temp instability just don't cut it!

The 1-10 should stabilize the 165's, I think most guys are shooting 1-10 twist. I start at 64gr of Retumbo and work up, generally around 66gr seems to be a sweet spot.

I'm currently shooting 150 bergers at about 2970fps. What would be the significant benefits of shooting the matrix 165's compared to the bergers. Keep in mind this is mainly a hunting rig, thanks. Also is it worth working with the rl19?

What kind of velocities are you seeing with Retumbo? I've only tried H1000 and am getting 2835 with an es of 9

With 66gr I'm running 3053 fps with 10fps ES, around a 27.5in barrel. Going to work with it more this week and load some 175's.

I'm new to the 270wsm world, but am wondering what kind of luck you've all had with the 4831sc? Also what bullets have worked?

bigngreen,

Are you using Federal 215 Magnum primers, or the 215 Gold Medal Match Magnum primers?

Just the Federal 215 Magnum, I haven't been able to get my hands on Gold Medal locally. By the way just got the barrel on again and checked seating and COAL with 165's is 3.120 just touching the lands.

62 grains of H4831 under a 135 Sierra MK works very well for me.
All weather consistent, way sub MOA, easy on the shoulder.
CCI-br2, 2.970 col, .002 off lands. enjoy.
