Is Wipe Out ok for custom barrels?

I have used cleaning solvents that are frequently mentioned on the site with good results. I recently was working on an old A3Springfield that had years of crud in the barrel and proved to be stubborn. A friend of mine said to try the foam cleaner "Wipe Out". I did, and within a brief period the barrel was literally spotless. Carbon and copper were completely gone in a matter of minutes! Somewhat messy, and sticky feeling, it worked better that anything I have ever used. Any experiences with this product, especially using it with high grade barrels. This stuff seems too good to be true.

Steel is steel. A barrel has no idea that it is custom or not.

I use Wipe Out consistently on every thing I own.

Other cleaners are used when time is an issue.

The sticky feeling takes getting used to but is cleaned up with dry patches and an 'oil' patch for storage.

A patch in the chamber keeps the blue stuff out of the action.

In the custom barrel, the overnight soak, a couple of patches followed by a Warthog patch to verify copper is gone. A dry patch followed by a lube patch if storage will be lengthy and ur done.

Greyfox, did you look at it with a borescope?
You know what it usually means when something seems to good to be true..

My rifle builder and his dad swear by the stuff. I have not heard of any issues in using it. He has a bore scope, but I didn't ask if had noticed any problems. The theory is there, good cleaning with less rod strokes. Wipe out is the cleaner he recommended for the Kreiger barrel he installed on my action.

No I didn't but used my Boretech cleaner afterward and had no discoloration which shows up with any copper at all.....usually.

Use the stuff in all my rifles, from $100 .22lr to my custom barrel .338 to my issued weapons.

Been using it for about 5 years now - previously if someone came out with a new mouse trap cleaner I tried it. Haven't found any need to try anything different up till now after trying wipeout.

Even on prairie dog towns where we have 2-4 rifles going apiece I use the wipeout when I get back to the truck - but then I use their accelerator product along with the wipeout foam.

I have a custom rifle that has about 700 rounds down the tube and it has never seen a brush.

And - yes - I have used a bore scope after using the wipeout more than once.

Thanks for all the replies.......i must have 50 different types of solvents and cleaners on my shelf that I have accumulated over the years. While I have preferences I was never really satisfied with the results until I used this this product. I'm switching!!!!

How is Wipeout compared to Gunslick foam cleaner? I used the Gunslick foam cleaner on my 280rem, and about three applications I was done.

I cant' personally swear to it but I read several different places when I first began researching both of them that they are actually the same product sold under two different labels through a licensing agreement.

Been there - Done that. Just this last winter I finally cleaned out my solvent supply. If it hadn't been used in the last year it went.

Just couldn't throw out the Hoppe's No. 9 - have no idea what i need it for but my gun room just smells better if I use it every so often if nothing else than to wipe down a shotgun or two on the outside.

use it, and LIKE it ! i also use the liquid with accelerator for stubborn (older military) bbls., also have been using the MAXX oil on my comp. .45 acp and it works extremely well.

I frequently use a Hawkeye borescope to check on cleaning.

The best all purpose bore cleaners I've found are WipeOut and it's sibling PatchOut. They do work faster if used with the Accelerator sold by the same company that makes WipeOut.

I also use BoreTech Eliminator for copper removal in combination with either SLIP2000 or GM Top Engine cleaner for carbon removal.

I put a very light film of Break-Free CLP in the bore for long term (like a year) storage.

I use a Mike Lucas bore guide that has an O-ring to seal in the chamber so it's easy to squirt the WipeOut in and then plug the chamber end with bore-guide that has a Q-Tip stuck in it, and stick a patch wrapped Q-Tip in the muzzle so the barrel can be left to soak over night with out the solvent getting into the action. Sealing both ends ******* evaporation so the solvent stays active all night.

If a barrel fouls really badly it might need two over night soakings.

I once cleaned an old winchester Model 70 for a friend who had gotten it from his dad. His dad had cleaned it like he always did, with Hoppes #9. I soaked it over night and got the darkest navy blue patch out of it. Same the second and third nights. The 4 night it came out very light blue and the borescope confirmed it was clean, possibly for the first time since it left the factory.
