270 Wthby load for 165 grn Matrix VLDs

If it has factory spec wby freebore you won't find the lands and have enough bullet left in the case neck or won't fit in the mag. Try to seat with the bt at the neck/shoulder junction and start with 67-68grns retumbo or 64-65grns H1000 and work up. You will likely have the best results with retumbo, id also use br2 or fed210m primers to keep the es down, if you must use a magnum primer, use winchester LRM. You will likely get 3050-3100fps but jumping those bullets and your twist rate I'm not so sure your going to get top notch accuracy.

Anyone have some guidance on powders, starting loads, sweat spot, likely max and velocities.

Thanks,
Scott

I know these are not the 165's you are shooting, however, if they do not shoot for you, I have had really good success with this load: Federal 210M primer, powder 67 gr. IMR 7828, 140 gr Nosler Accubond, OAL 3.420.

This load worked for me out of a 270 WBY MAG with a 26" pipe. I am uncertain about the speed though.

I do have considerable free bore but have allot of magazine box too. I just tried the 160 nosler part in the stoney point OAL guage... just touching the lands puts the base right at the junction (OAL of 3.438)... don't have the 165 Matrix in my hands yet (shipped Monday) but I'm hoping they'll sit in the neck enough to hold while getting me close to the lands
