Scratched cases from my 308

Bought a DPMS in 308 second hand, had very few shots through it ( the first owner told me). So upon ejection I'm noticing scratches on the body of the casing.
My first question is: why is this happening? and the second is: when I reload these cases, will this weaken them?

Looks like you either have some crud in your chamber, or there's actually tool marks from the reamer that need to be polished out. I've seen similar indentations/scratches caused by detached bristles after cleaning when the chamber wasn't throroughly swabbed out. If they remain after the chamber is definately clean, then it's probably machine marks left during reaming. A quick check with a bore scope should give the answer. If they are tool marks, they may be able to be removed with a light polishing usinf some emory or crocus cloth on a mandral. Leave this one to your gunsmith, unless you're comfortable with this sort of work.

Any chance it's the feed lips from the magazine causing this?


They don't look deep enough to cause issues with the brass.

Got some good pics inside the receiver, seems theres some rough metal on the teeth. Hope you can see this.

Can't say for sure from the pics, but it looks like you're looking in the right area. If the scratches or marks are consistently the same, same place, etc., it's something in the chamber that needs to be polished out. Not a major problem, and it's easy enough to fix. Keep us posted!
