5th Shot Blues

Do you ever wish that dang 5th shot hadn't happened? This was a 5 shot group at 100 yards with my Remington VLS 22-250. The load was 34.5 grains of Varget behind a 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. This load has done this on numerous occasions where it stacks 3 or 4 in almost one hole and then you have one "flyer" Statistically it's not really a flyer as this gun averages around .5 MOA but it sure looks like one after you stack 4 on top of each other.

Great group, my solution for a 5th shot flyer (which always happens to me) is pretend you're going to shoot 6 shots and stop at 5...

I seriously believe it's a mental game!

I know exactly what you mean! I was shooting amazingly well one day with my 270. I had shot 4 of the 5 targets on the paper and all my groups were less that MOA with 2 groups right around .5 MOA I started shooting at my last target (the middle one) when all of a sudden I was getting all these weird flyers. I started counting holes and realized there were 6 shots in the vicinity of the center target and I had only fired 3..... The old guy next to me was shooting my target with his 06 and ruined my best target sheet I'd ever shot. hahaha

I wish I could say that I had sent the shot low and that the load was perfect, but the exact same load a week earlier had produced .5-.75 MOA groups but had an ES of 84 so I'm pretty sure I had 4 rounds that were good and the 5th was just a little too slow.
