Hey guys. I am looking at building a rifle in either 300 WBY or 7mm STW. I am looking at basing it on a Stevens 200 long action then throwing a Shilen barrel on it. Since these 2 calibers have a very long COAL, I am wonder how long the action opening is and how long the magazine box is. Also, am I able to use a standard shank size for those 2 calibers? Any help would be great. Thanks.

the mag box is 3.5 or the action is 3.5? The COAL on a 7mm STW is 3.6" and the 300 WBY is slightly shorter. So that is what I'm worried about.

You can make a 7mm stw but don't expect to chase the lands if you want a repeater. Lots of options for the Savage Stevens actions but you are limited once you start getting up in size. You can open the action a little too.
