Kimber 84m options

I have a Kimber 84M chambered in a 243 win that needs some attention. The rifle has major problems with accuracy and barrel fouls very bad after a day at the range. I gave it to my 11 year old son last year to replace his single shot 7mm-08. Took it out to the range the other day and this thing is getting worse. I can shot a 1 inch group with it one day then the next I couldn't get a 4 inch group. I would would like to replace the barrel and rechamber it to a 7mm-08. I don't have any experience with a Kimber action so im lost. Im sure the feed ramp will need to be modified is there anything else other then rechambering the new barrel? I would like to go back with the same style barrel and keep the origanal stock. What is my options? Thanks

Before declaring it "needs rebarreled" , have pro look it over/bore scope it. Might find a simple problem you missed!

I took it to a gunsmith about 2 years ago. He looked it over and told me to send it back to the factory because something wasn't right. I have little faith with Kimber because of how they treated a few of my friends and there rifle problems. A little about what problems i'm having and the reason I think the barrel is part if not all of the problem. When I clean the barrel lately I noticed 2 spots in my barrel that will loose resistance when pushing a patch through it. The other problem is the case is swelling and leaving a deep ring mark close to end of case. After shooting shell one time I can no longer reload it because I will get case seperation were that ring was. Im not reloading then no where close to max powder. Something tells me the chamber was never cut right from the factory and the rifling is eroding away. Thanks for the advice. Tony

Well, the Kimber presents no real problems to rebarrel. Some of the custom barrel makers I use don't charge any extra to copy an existing contour, so using the original stock isn't a problem. Ya' might find that an existing contour comes 'close enough' that you won't need a custom contour. Can't help but wonder, though, did the 'smith bore scope the barrel and make a chamber casting? Chambers don't just "go bad" unless exessive loads are being fired. And then, it's usually not the just chamber, but, the action or both. If a chamber is bad, it's bad to begin with. just my 2 cents

When I took it over to my smith and showed him what the spent brass looked like after I shot it he didn't like what he saw at all. Im not sure if he looked thru the barrel with a light. He just told me to send it back and let them inspect it futher. When I get home Wednesday I will take a picture of the spent brass and post it. Thanks for the advice.
