Cabelas Alaknak

I don't now if this is the right place to post this question but I couldn't find a better spot.
I am looking into buying a Cabelas Alaknak 12x12 For camping in. I pack in with horses and mules. We use canvas wall tents now but I am looking to get more room with less weight if possible.
Has anybody used this tent?
How does it pack?
Are the poles a pain to pack? Can I use wood poles like we do for the canvas tent?
Does the tent burn holes easily with stove use?
Can a tarp be used as some exrtra spark and rain protection?
Any and all info will be taken to help in the decision making.

We have used one for about 8 years. It takes one horse to pack in the tent and poles and stakes. You can't use wooden poles need to use medal tent poles. Yes the cinders will burn holes in tent like a canvas tent maybe a little easier as it is not as thick material. We put tent in top pack and poles in old gun scabbard on each side, stove goes in one panyard and stakes and ax in other side. Hope this helps. You will need to put waterproof treatment on tent every couple years. Horse in third picture has tent on top of sawbuck. We usually put a tarp on floor and it sleeps three real well with gear and 4 if you crowd together.

The info was what i was looking for. Have you had problems with it leaking or condensation buildup? Handle the snow loads good? We leave our wall tent set up from the first of Sept. to the last of Oct. Mostly in the Wyoming high country. You know how bad it can get at 9000 feet in Oct. if mother nature decides to cut loose. How long are the poles? Side walls 4 ft.? center pole collapse or break down?I Do not see a tarp on the roof in the photos. Have you tried one?Is it needed? I Use a tarp on the wall tent now. I would like to use the vestibule and gain the added space it offers. Any thoughts?

You need to remove the snow and rain out of side wall pockets or they will finally leak thru with condensation. 4 foot side poles and never had problems with center pole collapsing. I would not recommend leaving the tent up for long periods of time we never have we hunt for 10 t0 14 days and come out. We did put a blue tarp over on one trip because the treatment was gone and it did leak. Had to treat it for next trip. About time for a new one now. Blue tarp did the job.

Where in Wyoming are you setting up? We hunt the Wind Rivers and the Thorofare mostly and sometimes on the Greys River. It has handled over a foot of snow but we were in tent and removed it next morning. Have to tighten up ropes on walls as tent stretches over time just normal stuff.

Greys River,cliff creek, horse haven medows.
2 years ago we had over 2 feet of snow in Oct. tent was still standing when we arrived at camp.Another foot while we were there and the animals were dragging their bellis in the snow.
We have to leave our camp as it is a pain in butt to take out and back in for differnt seasons and differnt schedules. It is a helluva lot easier to leave it.
I think i will have custom fly for the top made. Need the extra protection. Getting up there in weight for the pack animal now.

Any luck this year hunting? It was a warm dry hunt this year.
Do you have any pics of the inside of your alaknak setup?
What stove are you using?

No pictures of inside tent. stove is Cabelas fold up stove. We usually set up 3 Cots on the inside back wall and both sides lots of room for stove at end of wall cot. Set up cook stove in middle of tent. Tent works great for three people 4 gets crowded. Hunt this year was postponed due to pickup problems and health issues with one of hunters.
