Hi iv just joined a target shooting and hunting club in Sydney and i am kinda lost on what kind of rifle i should be looking at.

I have been using club rifle at newer japanse rifle hunting rifle that has a floor plate magazine, and iv kinda been turned of them by my experiences with it it has these annoying groves along the side of the rifle that the bullets keep getting court in making it very hard to feed the magazine, and it often jam's or cycles multiple rounds, im sure some of them are good but which ones?,

i do like the safety aspect with the detachable magazines you can simply remove them when your not shooting and then open the bolt,
with the floor plates you ether have to open them dumping all you bullets into the mud or get or open the bolt and then try and push down all the rounds with your finger and then close the bolt on a empty chamber which is very fiddly especially when your working around a scope.

but finding a rifle that has the detachable magazines is pretty hard and is also well designed and reliable is very difficult,

even remington has a BDL in the 700.but it will only drop the floor plate.if you want you can up grade it to hold a mag.:D

I would say go SAVAGE. I have friends who own Savage's and there are not a one bad shooting rifle in there group. I have a sweet Remington 700 and I can't touch there accuracy at 300mtrs.
The ones they own are all heavy Barreled killers.

I would consider two or three rifles and sorta go from there. Look at the Howa, Remington, and of course the Savage. I think the Howa is a better gun than the Remington, and out of the box will shoot better. The Savage is the most accurate of the three, and probably the most accurate rifle you can buy without a $1500 investment. The Remingtons I've been around pretty much needed a rebuild right out of the box, but they can be made to shoot. A sleeper out there is the Mossberg. I've seen a couple of them shoot in the fours
