Optics mounting help

Can someone recommend a solid ring/base setup for the following gun? I was going to use a two piece base of some sort and Burris Signature Zee rings but have heard from a few sources that they would not be sufficient for a heavy recoiling/lightweight gun.

Rem 700 with ABS barrel
338 RUM
The rifle will have a brake and weighs 8.2# without optics.
6.5-20x40 Leupold with M1 knobs, 30mm tube

I use Leupold bases and rings on my 416 Remington and have never had a problem.

Depending on what you want to spend there are a lot of options. I have a Badger Ordinance 1 piece Rail with Badger max50 rings on my 338 lapua. This may be over kill but I have supreme confidence in this set up. a good budget set up would be the 1 piece talleys (which I have a set of 30mm's Medium height for a remington 700 that are for sale) or an EGW 1 piece Rail with the burris extreme rings.

For rings and bases I recommend Badger, Nightforce, Leupold (Alloy), and Seekins. I tend to use Badger 30moa or the Nightforce 20moa. The Nightforce base are very good and are a little cheaper.

What ever you get I suggest that the rail and rings be steel or titanium not aluminum because of the possible heavy recoil. And make sure that the cross bolts for tightening the rings are pushed forward so they touch the front part of the slots. Then when the rifle recoils the rings can not move forward. gun)

I agree, I have the nightforce base on 2 rifles and it is just as good as the higher priced bases

Tikkamike & CS Gunworks make great points I use both, on my rifles I use the following:

Lazzeroni 7.82 Patriot- Leupy MK4 picatinny & XTR's

.338 RUM- Badger 20moa picatinny & XTR's

6-284- Nightforce Direct Mount (great mount)

And 3 or 4 more with std Leupy bases & Burris Zee rings.

For your setup, I would highly suggest a one piece base from a reputable manufacturer as well as some of the more robust rings out there i.e. Badger, Leupy MK4, Seekins, ARC... etc. Don't skimp on your mounts, you optic can only be as reliable as your mounting hardware.
