AR500 steal VS mild steel 250yds

There have been a few post about steel targets in the last month and I just wanted to show what happens when you use mild steel for your targets.

It works but it does not last long! The steel it 1/2 thick and the rounds didnt penatrate the plate but allmost 3/4 of it.

Rifle used was my Armscorp M1A in 308 win at a range of about 250yds. I was shooting LC match ammo that is loded with a 175g SMK. This is a little girls load compared to most of the things guys are shooting in here.

This is a piece of mild steel I welded a piece of rebar to the back and stomped it into the ground next to my AR500 poper.

This is my AR500 popper from www.metaltargets.com It has thousands of rounds on it mostley of 5.56 and 308 win.

Yup, AR500 or similar is the only way to go unless you're into making ventilated steel plates.

I know AR 500 steel is superior for target shooting, But if you put that same mild steel out say 600yrds it works, especially if it is hanging. If you have it place solid so no energy can be disipated then yes it will still crater at 500yrds.

I have never shot at steel at 200, but if i was, I would use ar500.

My local supply house does not have any ar500 but they do have ar400. Telling me that the 500 is specialty stuff and would need to be ordered. Anyone tried using 400?

Ok thats not that close to me check out this web site. In my opnion for the price that the metal supplyer is going to charge you for a special order of AR500 you are better off going with this guy.

He is in LeRoy NY its between Buffalo and Rochester and you cant beat the price www.metaltargets.com.

I think AR 400 would be ok for handgun targets but not rifle.

I have a few ar400 rounds and they work just fine. i dont like to shoot them closer then 400 or 500y. Anything closer and they will dimple and like above let them swing nothing stationary or solid.

Holy crap I wonder how hot his barrel was? If I were gonna post myself shooting I would go for group size not speed even though it was meant to show how the steel holds up im pretty sure everyone is looking at group size... at least on here.
