Has anyone here used this bullet for hunting deer or antelope?

Im sure some one has it would not be my first choice for game. Why not shoot a VLD,JLK, Accubond or a Sarraco?

Its not my first choice, just curious. I have alot of them and they shoot good. I have been trying to get some 140 grain accubonds for the last 4 months, they are never in stock.

This subject usually sparks a lot of debate. Nobody has published an official study so far as I know. Least of all Sierra for the reasons stated in some of the threads...

The biggest difference between the 142 SMK and the 140 Berger is the word "Hunting" that Berger stamps on their box.

Regardless, a whitetail or antelope hit with a well placed 142gr SMK travelling at 1800+ fps is going to be in serious trouble.

I may just give the SMK a try next season.

Why not the Swift sirocco II 130gn i have it to my 6.5X55 swede drive it to 905m/s about 3000f/s that load is a bit on the hot side but very effect full

never a 142 SMK but i have shot deer with a 6mm 107 SMK. internal damage wasnt anything too impressive. had a full pass through breaking the offside shoulder. i personally dont think the bullet expanded until it hit the offside shoulder but it did go through the heart so it worked. I have shot antelope with my 264 win mag and have had great results with that bullet on thin skinned game

A few years back we harvested two antelope using 100 gr. SMK's in my .25-06. Killed both with one shot each...but after that experience...I decided to not use them. Just not any expansion...pencil in and pencil out. There seemed to be plenty of internal organ damage....both had jelly where the lungs had been. I think I'd feel better harvesting with a bullet that will offer some expansion.

Good Luck.....I think most any bullet will harvest an animal...as long as shot placement is perfect. Anything less....I think you're better served with a bullet that will expand. JMHO.

Sorry to go against the grain i have used the 6.5 SMK on a 165 lb hog at 434 yds DRT high shoulder shot when skinned out reveiled a softball size hole through and through.Also a antelope at 573 yds shot in the vitals no major bone same results.I have also taken a 225 lb hog with a 30 ca 168 gr.SMKshot from a 300WSM at about 100 yds that quickly killed the hog however just pencilled through I think that the bullet needs to slow down some to be effective and would not feel very confident on shots under 250 yds or so.

If talk about BTHP match bullets in general, I used it once on deer from 308, it was 155 gr NCC, that deer was facing me, so I took head shot, bullet went threw the nostril crushing maxilla in to cranial cavity, crushing frontal, temporal and parietal bone, with no exit. I searched for bullet in cranial cavity, but only found little pieces of copper and lead in what use to be brain. That deer drooped on the same spot, it never had a chance.

I shot 2 goats with them. A yearling at 400 quartered towards me hard complete pass through exit the size of golf ball. Recovery 0 feet. A buck at 200 broadside through rib cage exit size of softball.100 yard recovery. 6.5-284
