.257 bullets?

i reloaded some accubonds and shot them today but the best group i got was about an inch with my 257 roberts. which isnt good enough for me for a low recoil rifle, i was wondering what bullets you guys like for this? the 110 grains just didnt want to shoot, i thought about the 115 bergers but they are on the heavy end for 257 roberts i think. let me know your opinions!

its a 1-10 twist, ill give the 115's and the h-4350 a try. a freind gave me some loads that shot real well for his roberts that are barnes ttsx with imr4350. ill give both a try. got 2 days off work to go camp this next weekend. we'll see how it shoots. i know this isnt a big gun but id like to practice out to 800, this guy i got these loads from shoot his to 800 for practice, so i kinda set a goal to match that.

How many powders did you try? My 25-06 shoots most loads at about 1.0-1.25moa, but with the right mix I have 100 btips, 110 accubonds, and 115 bergers all at .5-.7 moa at 200 yds. I'm not bragging as I'm neither an expert reloader or a competition shooter, it just took a lot of variations(6 powders, multiple seathing depths) to find where the groups shrank. It is amazing the difference a 1/2 grain of powder makes.

257 bob is a very diff case than what I load for(25-06, 270, 280, 7mm Mag), but I find that 4350/4831 are very forgiving powders and shoot very well in most of my calibers and even the fastest in some.

PS I have two full boxes of 115 hunting bergers for sale for $70 if you find you want more of those.

Did you work up a load or just try ONE load? The only way to make a bullet shoot is to do a work up. Do a ladder load with the powder to find you accuracy. Then tweak the seating depth with a ladder series to see if you can improve things. I have never had trouble getting any of the Accubond or Ballistic Tip Nosler bullets to shoot great. The Partitions can be a pain and I always don't get glint edge accuracy out of them but good enough to hunt with.
If you are just target shooting why are you using hunting bullets? Get you some match bullets. At 800 yards with a .257 bullet your accuracy is going to be up to just how good you can dope the wind, of course that is with any bullet.

1:10 twist may be marginal for a 115gr 25cal bullet depending on several factors. Sometimes you can overcome that with velocity. But, 257 Roberts isn't a 257Wby either.

If your rifle doesn't quite like them after a good load workup, try something a little lighter/shorter, but with the best BC you can find.

Flat base bullets may give better accuracy from 100-300 yds. But, the BC of the boattails and VLDs will make a difference at 800 yds.

i worked up a load, i went in .5 increments for powder and started at 2 thou off the lands and worked my way back to about 5thou off. best i could get was an inch still. kept the barrel cool and clean, put one foul shot through the barrel before i shot each group.

try the Nosler 100 grain BT over 45.0 grains of H414 powder at about 3100fps with a mag primer. Seat the bullet about .010" off the lands. RL22 works very well I might add. It's not the bullet weight, but the length, and you need to look for something slightly shorter

this load proved to be pretty accurate in a Remington Mountain Rifle and three Ruger 77's and a #1 if that matters
