Why would a person choose a tactical style stock instead of a sporter style stock.

Top 10 Reasons for choosing tactical vs sporter stock

(10) what they were trained on
(9) got tired of others winning competitions
(8) tried one that someone else had and it fit and felt really good
(7) design was well suited to their application e.g. squared vs sloped bottom rides a bag really well
(6) let a bunch of anonymous experts on the internet influence them
(5) saw someone shoot really well with one in a magazine
(4) self-training to be a sniper
(3) black rifle fixation
(2) it looks cool
(1) rambo complex

There's a huge range of quality in both sporter and tactical stocks. You usually get what you pay for. (sometimes not)

I've found tactical style stocks to provide a very solid and consistent shooting platform for long range especially with a bipod and rear bag. They generally carry a little more weight which is also good for long range.

I still prefer a sporter for a carry rifle when I'm guiding for my kids/nephews. Or, for hauling around in a pickup.

I'm going to buy a different stock for one of my rifles. I've never owned a rifle with a tactical style stock. I'm trying to decide why I would want one. So far the only reason I can come up with is, I've never had one.

"I've never had one" is a good reason to try one.

Try one and then you can make up your own mind.

You will probably find like most people, there will be uses for both styles. Even the material
that the stock is made of can make a difference is certain types of uses.

lots of time it boils down to what you think looks best.

Anyshot I take past 300 yards I try to go prone. This is where they shine. If you shoot prone much you might want to try one.
