Just received shipment of my Sightron S3 8x32x56mm 1/8 target dot. Its optic's are awesome. I new I made the right choice. It even came with flip up lens covers.

i just received the same scope a week or so ago. went with the fine cross hair, kinda wish i got the dot. the clicks are very good, they've improved them recently. i really like mine also, it seems like a very nice piece of equipement, especially for the price.
What rifle did you mount yours on ? Your eyes are better then mine. I have the 1/8th target dot. I kind of wish I went with the 1/4 target dot or Duplex reticle . Mine is mounted on my Mod 70 7WSM 26" After market Brux bbl. I was out in the NV desert today sighting it in. It was tough bore sighting it in at 125 yds. Trying to look at the target through the bbl and moving the cross hairs resting the rifle on Caldwell bunny ear front rest in moderate wind gust. I thought I got it right fired a shot and hit bulls eye then started shooting at a metal gong 280yds away and was hitting every time then I fired back at paper target at 125 and it was high and to the right and then ran out of ammo. I guess not bad for windy desert conditions.
Sightron SIIIs are a real bargain, IMO. Particularly if you're looking for a quality scope that weighs substantially less than the typical 30-32 oz that the premium scopes seem to tip the scales at. I'm looking to purchase a couple of the 6-24x50 LRMOAs.

mine will be mounted on an edge. it's a 15 lb. dedicated long range point gun. wish i could have looked through both, kinda wish i had the 1/8th dot, that fine hair is definitely fine! but you get a nice picture without a bunch of slashes and marks on the reticle.
phorwath, the moa reticle has a 1/4 dot, that's what i don't like about it.

The 1/4 dot is also a concern of mine. Lets say your on a prairie dog at 500 yds. or so. How much of the critter is going to be covered over?
I've never aimed at a prairie dog at 500 yds. But this 1/8th dot its small. Plus the thin lines well they're thin. But my 54 year old corrected vision eyes can see it.

That's good to know. I've got 11 yrs. on you. I'm not a fan of the 50mm's for hunting purposes and not into Ill. rets., but the Ill. ret. i guess i'll live with. I just don't like paying for something i don't need / want. The Vortex is the same isue with the Ill. ret.

Hadn't considered whether or not that should be a show stopper for me. Doing some quick math on my calculator, the dot would cover 2.62" @ 1000 yds. 1.31" @ 500 yds. Hmmmm...
So I just checked the IOR Valdada web site to get the dot size on their MP-8 reticle, which I also own and use:
"MP-8 Dot Reticule
We upgraded our standard MP-8 with a .25 moa Dot in the center for greater precision. This reticule is the most requested reticule in our line and is hard to beat."
If my IOR dots are 0.25 moa, that size was never problematic for me. In fact, I really like the MP-8 reticle.
The 0.25 moa Dot is too large for your preference?

This is a great scope. I have a 8x32x56 but with the LRD (long range dot) reticle. I shot it for the first time at an f-class shoot at 600 yards on Monday. This is perfect, I've said in the past I thought the dot might be too big at longer ranges but it wasn't at 600. This was my "first" time shooting at 600 yards and I scored a 196.

Did you all receive Flip open lens covers ? I did but the rear cover is too small. I guess I'll call their offices tomorrow.

I called Sightron Riflescopes, Binoculars, Spotting Scopes & Other Precision Optics - The great wide open just got alot sharper. HOME today. Told them about size issue. They with out pause asked for my address and said"A new set of lens covers will be sent out immediately" I suggest you do the same. I like they're flip ups better then the others.
I lost a turret cover on one of my scopes out in the field when a hunting buddy was using my rifle. Sightron sent out two replacement caps for my turrets pronto, following my e-mail communication. They seem to have a very pro-customer position on warranty and replacement matters. But the primary reasons I use their scopes is their glass is an outstanding value, the scopes are much lighter than most all other variable power scopes in these higher magnification ranges, the turret adjustments are precisely repeatable, and the guts of the scopes stay in place even with muzzle-braked rifles - at least mine have so far.
