Sendero 300 Wm or 7 Rum??

Hi Guys, I am interested in buying a sendero and am not sure which one to get? 300 Wm or 7 RUM? I only want to shoot a 180 VLD out of the 7 RUM. Want to be able to shoot out to 900 yards. My 7MM with 162 amax does well to about 700 yards. The 180 VLD and possibly the 30 cals will give me a heavier bullet with good BC's and buck the wind a little better. Please give me your pro's and con's for each and which one you would pick? I am not interested in building a custom gun. Thanks

The 7RUM is impressive in both ballistic performance and barrel wear! Your 7 rem mag should make it to 1000 just fine. Try switching to the 168 Bergers.

But to answer you question, I would go with the 300 win mag hands down. Longer barrel life by double at least. The 300 with either the 190 or 210 Bergers will get you to as far as you want to shoot.

The RUM burns a lot of powered..brass is limited and can be hard to find. Just way to much powder,recoil, and barrel issues to make it worth the extra 250fps than the standard 7 rem mag.

A detailed study including tons of research may reveal a bit of a difference between the two. Each has its advantages.

An elk @ a 1000 couldn't tell the difference.

In a custom gun the belted cartridge isn't a handy cap. Many competition shooters have hung their hat on the 300 win for a lot of years. Some make their own sizing tool to resize the belt thus get many many more shots from each case. Some load plenty hot.

From having shot some I'd go with the 7 RUM and a brake just to be able to spot the shots.

Ether will do the job.

With the 7 RUM you are close to the limit of bullet weight with the 180grain bullets. The 168s
are also a good choice for 1000 yard shooting.

The 300 Win will handle larger bullets and do a fine job at those distances.

If i were going to build a 30 Mag I would go with the 300 RUM because it can be loaded down
to 30/06 velocities all the way up to all most the velocity of a 30/378.

For years I competed at 1000 yards with a 7 Rem Mag and was very successful so with eather
choice you will have more rifle than I had.
