Been out of town for a few weeks... thought I'd take a second look here. You may well be right; paper ballistics is not the bottom line for sure. I've seen more than my fair share of "magic bullets" in my day. I was thinking back to P.O Ackley and his test on a ½ "armor-plate" using a .220 Swift with a 48 grain SP bullet, against a 100gr. in a .270 Win and a 30.06 using a G.I issued A.P round. In the test only the 220 Swift penetrated the plate. The explanation is a little too long to go into, but if anyone is interested it's in volume 1 of P.O.'s book. I'm sure there has to be some of the "same science" going on with the M855A1 round, or maybe they'd have one believe there is. In any case, I'd like to see the round in action with my own two eyes, out of my M4, on a plate I picked out by me to be sure.
