Hornady GMX

Only limited experience, but the six hogs I've shot with them so far were between 400 and 900lbs.

Performance on target very similar to Nosler Partition, but with much, much better long range accuracy.

Complete pass through on the four and five hundred lbs hogs, shoulder to shoulder, jello inside of chest cavity. None took a step.
On the 800-900lbs hogs pass through shoulder rib cage, turned everything inside into red jello and buried in opposite muscke between ribs and shoulder. Both hit ground, kicked a few times and expired.

Outstanding overall performance with limited use so far.

Coyotes popped like prairie dogs hit in mid section at 300-600yds (4 total so far).

Wild Rose,
Was unaware that Hornady made a 150gr GMX? Is that a new offering that's not on their website? Or are you referring to the 139gr GMX?

You are correct. Tired typing. Too many loads running round in my head for that time of morning.

My GMX's are loaded at 3430fps. My interbond loads are 154gr's at 3325fps.

More pass through's with the interbond.

On large, more dangerous species I really prefer keeping all of the energy within the body cavity if possible. I've had some of the interbond loads hit hogs facing me stright on right in the throat pass all the way through the body cavity and exit the rear.

Makes a hell of a mess when they pass through the gut like that.

Shot a 225lb California blacktail Deer this year with a 165gr gmx out of a 300rum goin about 3400fps at just over 225 yards, took him high in the ribs quartering away, destroyed about 5inches of spine, didnt take a step, just went end over end down the hill about 25 yards. Absolutely devistating performance. no fragments recovered so im assuming it held together.

Dang, I was hoping that you were privvy to a new weight they were offering. Thanks for the clarification, and it's good to hear about the interbonds having great weight retention too. Like the OP, I've been intrigued by the GMX, but am wondering if they're harder than the Barnes TSX, TTSX, etc...hopefully we'll see some more positive responses about their performance on game.

Sidebar...is anyone noticing differences in group size between interbonds and GMXs?

Personally I'm not much of an experimenter. When I find something that works I just stick with it pretty much until I'm forced to do something else.

I shot the 139gr and 162gr interlocks at everything for years. 162's for larger game, and 139's for White tails, Antelope and predators. Outstanding performance always.

The Interbond has as good of weight retention as the interlock, it's just a different design lacking the cannelure and a much higher BC.

We shot prairie dogs in S. Dakota with the 139's a few years ago and out to 600yds they were still doing the job well enough to splat'm consistently.

Between it and the factory .204's with the 32gr Vmax's there wasn't a prairie dog we could see that was safe.

Hornady and Norma worked up some special loads for us many years ago when we were testing some .308 norma mag's for sniper applications and I got to know a lot of the people there personally over the years and have just had a wonderful relationship with them ever since.

I don't remember exactly what this one weighed but I'm 5'8 an about 215lbs in this picture for scale. He was probably around 650-750 live wt.

400-600bls is pretty common around here for the older boars. I've seen but not been in range of a couple of real monsters on several occasions. They don't live long enough to get that big by being stupid.

The gmx is made of gilding metal. I know it is different from copper but can't remember if softer or harder. I can tell you they produced 5 shot groups in my 300rum that could be covered with a dime and to this day the smallest 3shot group ever fixed from that rifle. Basically one hole about .400 in diameter. I also noticed copper fouling with very minimal with these bullets. I still use bergers for long range but man if they made a 200gr gmx it would be slammin.

I shot a whitetail buck with the 150 gr GMX from a 30-06 at about 20 yds from a tree stand. Went through shoulder, heart and out the opposite ribs with about a 1.5" exit hole. No major bones hit, just shoulder muscle and ribs. Pleased with the performance, just wish the buck hadn't run the 100 yds he did. Added about an hour and lots of sweat to the recovery time!
