Took a short ride looking for a bear

There is still a ton of snow up in the hills. I took my 4 wheeler south of town yesterday evening for a ride on a 4 wheeler only trail. I only got a little ways in before I started running into snow drifts that aren't hard packed anymore and consist of "sugar snow" which has no traction. The winch got a good work out and paid for itself again. There was no green grass or flowing water and no bear sign. I will have to try another area till the weather warms up some more.

i'm hunting near Plains , Mt. next week and talked to the guide yesterday and he said the same, lots of snow and not much grass. He has seen a couple down low, so there is hope.

A few days ago I was wishing I had a saddle horse winch! Holy crap the snow! I have killed bears this early in places that today, has feet of snow! Around here anything above 5,500 feet is winter time.

We still have enough snow on the ground that it is over my knees in a lot of places and we're near sea level. Brown bear tracks are starting to show up.

Boy it's been a long spring.

You guys actually seen spring this year, it's freaking ridiculous down here, saw 7 degrees this morning and snow, everyone is getting testy!!

Way to much snow up in bear country here to even think about it, maybe a couple weeks of decent weather and we'll start looking for them.

Came over Marias pass last week, the snow was to the top of the 6-8 outhouse door, and winter all the way down, going to be a hard one on the elk and deer. Next it is going to flood, I wont hardley be able to sset foot in there this bear season.

My spots I go for the May 15th road openings might not be open by the end of bear season. I'm going to have find some new places. Not always a bad thing though. I bet the bears are going to be really hungry this year due to the late spring.
