.300 win Mag, about to jump off the deep end

Ok Lets talk .300 win mag.

What dies are you using and what components. I am looking for a load to keep me supersonic out to 1500 yards (208 Gr Amax???)

Rifle has a 26 inch Kreiger #10 MTU contour 1/10 twist with brake.

Also what is in you opinion a good tube length for this gun? 26" seems to me to be about correct sense to .338 LM and .338 edge seems to like 30"

With the 208 grain Amax's you should stay supersonic to around 2000 yards depending on altitude.

I am shooting them at 2960 fps out of a 26" Shillen barrel and they drop subsonic at 1950 yards at 4200 ft elevation (where I went shooting last weekend) and 2100 yards at 6500 ft (where I live).

I am using 77.9 gr. H1000. necksizing with RCBS die til they they feed tight then bump shoulder back .003.

P.S. You will really like the wind drift with these bullets too. At 1000 yards a friend of mine was getting 7 moa of wind with 165 grain SSTs while my 208s were only drifting 2.5 moa.

Thats crazy low drift!
I am really starting to go in favor of neck sizing vs full length. I don't think a couple more re-loadings is worth the hassle of a full length re size.

Go with a Redding body die, along with the NS no hassle.

How consistent is the data on their page with real world results? How does it meter?

2950 FPS with a 210GR VLD is moving gun)

According to NF Ballistics that supersonic well past 2000 yards.

I'm shooting 225 hornady match (bc.67 or g7 .343) in a 24" tube at 2825 fps with 80.5 grains retumbo. a 26 should get these to 2900gun)if you load them to max (suggested) coal theres a bit of a crunch but only a small crunch if u loadem long. mine likesem at 3.55"coalgun)

That seems like a like of powder max load for the 210 gr vld is like 76? I got 50 rounds loaded starting at 71 gr of h1000 and ending at 76.1 gr five rounds per charge weight. graduating one grain till I got to 75 then it was 75.5 75.7 76 76.1 Might push it a tenth grain at a time till I hit 77 gr and look for pressure signs. Well see still waiting on new barrel.

Ok new tube is on and used my lnl to measure OAL. set up my seater to load em .015 off the lands as a start. Every single one gave a bit of crunch as I seated em. i see loads all the way up to 80GR oh h1000!


Does compressing the load reduce pressure and allow the use of more powder? Seems like people get some pretty fast speed out of compressed loads and long tubes.

Also SAMMI speck is 61000 or so PSI but the Army says 68000 PSI and not to exceed 76000!
