best gun smith for savage

Tell me ho you thinks the best gun smith to true the action and put a barrel on a savage ? Thanks for info joe.

I haven't used either of the 2 listed below. But, they do a lot of work for people in these forums and I see lots of good references. If they did a poor job, you'd know it.

Yep, took me about 90 minutes to tell him I needed a standard LOP on my stock.

I took it with the idea that the poster had deep pockets! Of course a lot of us don't, and probably never will. I was lucky thru the years in that I could more often than not trade for my gunsmith work. And don't think I didn't take advantage of this!

I've seen work done by Scott in the past, and it's right in there with anybody out there. Larry Racine is another good one for a Savage. The folks over at Sharp Shooter are very good, but they also have a huge backlog.

You don't have to be poor to own a savage factory or upgraded they shoot better than 99% of other rifle makers and are a simple design that outdates the remington 700, they have barrel, trigger and action advantages over lots of makers. They have 2 downfalls, parts availability and a trigger block safety instead of a sear block. I sent you a message btw.

No i have not. But i have had a custon 338 AX I mean everything IT SHOT 1/2 MOA 1,400 YD. Kirby allen will not ship a rifle out of his shop if it will not shot 1/2 moa so if want a true custon Y would anybody pay $4K UP WHEN YOU CAN GET A CUSTOM ACTION AND EVERYTHING FOR SAME PRICE ? PLUS A BETTER RESALE ? There are alot of gun smith out there that are know more then parts changer. There are good gun smith that do great work but are more cost frindley. Thanks for your input. bolt guns are kinda generic, and the way most of us want them is also generic. But a 99 is a lever gun, and a different animal. The wood alone will often set you back $400 or more (and that's just a slab of walnut). I've seen custom Marlins run close to $4K. It's just not hard to spend four thousand on a work of art. A good 22 rimfire bench gun will set you back that much without sights. (a Calfee XP will run around $5K). I've seen custon doubles run $100K

I don't use Savages myself, but have a couple of friends who do. Both of them have changed out their own barrels and say it takes only a few minutes with the barrel wrench available from Midway. As far as truing the action, why not swap the barrel yourself, shoot it and see if the action needs work? If it does need additional work that would be a good time to replace the safety.
