Burris Fulfield 2 vs. Nikon Buckmaster

Which scope is better? I am looking to put one on a .300 win hunting rifle. I havent owned either one of the scopes, but both are reasonably priced.

It's really apples to apples with these 2. But if I were to chose it would be the Buckmaster. I have looked through both and prefer the glass on the Nikon.

I have a Nikon 6-18x40. It's decent glass and accurate/repeatable turrets. ...a good value for the money. It has the BDC reticle and the crosshairs are a little thick for precision target shooting, but not bad for most hunting.

I have not used the Burris. So, I can't offer anything either way.

I have both. The Nikon in my opinion does have a slight edge on the quality of the glass. They have nicer turrets also. However, I have a 3-9x40mm Buckmaster on a Ruger Hawkeye 300 Win and it lost zero. I moved the scope to a 30-06 with a muzzle brake and have had not it shift zero since. Perhaps it was a fluke, but I would trust the burris more on a 300. I have one on a 7mm Rem mag that is lighter than the 300 so the kick feels about the same. The burris has never had a problem after 5 years of hunting hard.

I would go with the buckmaster. I have several and they track everytime and I have a 4.5-14 on a 375 H&H and the 6-18 on my 338 rum with no recoil zero loss issues. The glass is also really good on them I would say they are even with any of the Leupold VX-III scopes I have.

I wouldn't rank my Nikon quite as high as my Leupolds. The glass and warranty/service is a notch above.

But, the Nikon is a good value and if you don't hit what you're aiming at, it's probably not the scope's fault.

Again, I can't speak to the Burris since I don't own any at this time.

Also look at the vortex viper series. I sold my burris to get one of the viper 6.5-20x44. I liked the burris but I wanted the target turrets, 30mm tube, moa adjustments and paralex on the side instead of on the front like the burris. They were the same price at 399 and the vortex was just loaded with features as well as being very highly spoken of as far as repeatability. I like nikons dead hold reticle that has the software onling so you can enter your variable ( velocity,bc..) and it will tell you what all the little hashes are at he different mag settings. I believe vortex is working on a program like this as well but nikon has it now.

+1 on the Viper.

After looking through the same Vortex side by side with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40, my eyes prefer the Vortex. Definitely worth the small bump in price over the Nikon or Burris.
I have three FFII's and love them. I have two Nikon Monarch's and love them. Can't speak for the Buckmaster, but would go with Vortex over all of the above.

I have 2 Buckmasters, a 4.5-14 and a 6-18X Midway mil-dot special ($309). Never owned that Burris, although I have the Timberline model (probably same glass.) The Burris FFIIs are decent, but getting a little "long in the tooth" compared to the side-focus (which I prefer) Nikon; and the Burris has that weird X adjustment that turns the whole eyepiece. With the 6-18 Buckmaster you get 1/8" clicks, a sunshade and extra set of target turrets. The only gripe I have with those model Nikons is the bit of "tunnel vision" they have. But still one of the best scopes in that $ range.
