Anyone shooting a 7 wsm with 180 berger vlds and H1000 powder. I'm looking to get max velocity out of the 180's in a 24 inch hart barrel using H1000.Of course, sub 1/2 moa is always the goal. Any reccomendations?

My 26" 7WSM shoots the 180s when loaded with H1000 and 2.90" to fit into an AI SA Mag to roughly 2,800 fps.

As much as I like H1000 we have had much better luck with H4831SC in the 7 WSM with the 180 Berger 2910 fps out of a 25" Hart tube and great accuracy.

Are you using standard or magnum primers? I have a 22" barreled SP in 7WSM and am using BR2 primers with 4831SC and getting 2900 fps with great accuracy with both 175 SMK and 180 JLK.

+1 on H4831SC with the 180's. Might also try Reloader 22. Gives a little more speed than H4831, but it also a little more temp sensitive.

Shawn,

Couple of quick questions.

Relative to the lands, where have you found your best accuracy with the 180's (seating depth relative to the lands)?

Also, when looking at my ballistics program, it appears that the velocity of the 180's needs to very close to that of the 168's in order to get similar wind drifts. These velocities are often difficult to achieve, which would appear to make the 180's worthwhile. Yet benchresters and very experienced shooters seem to opt for the 180's. Can you tell me why the 180's are so preferable when the ballistics software doesn't seem to bear it out?

Much appreciated.

I just ran some numbers through Exbal and I found some interesting results. I was thinking of trying the Berger 180 Hybrids, until now.

180 Berger
.659 BC
2950 fps
20 MOA sight adjustment @1000 yds
4.75 MOA windage adjustment 10 mph
1318 ft lbs at impact

168 Berger
.617 BC
3050 fps
19 MOA
5 MOA
1241

162 A-max
.625 BC
3050 fps
19 MOA
4.75 MOA
1214

I currently shoot the 162 A-max out of my 7 SAUM at the speed noted. As I see it, there's no reason for me to try the 180s since the 162s shoot .25-.3 MOA out of my rifle.
