OK I have to throw this out.... I do COMPLETELY understand just doing it different. If your going to drag out front back rest and essentially give your "pistol" a rear stock area to ride the bags, use a rifle scope and shoot prone.....why not just shoot the rifle?
I have an XP, just sold an encore, had a sako single shot pistol and bla bla bla. I love the transportability(bush'ism) of a pistol but got my *** kicked in a field shooting position carrying one.
I guess my question is when does the advantage of shooting a pistol or handgun lose to the practicality of shooting a light rifle? 10lb pistol with two rest vs 9lb rifle?
The guy I just went hunting with will ALWAYS shoot a pistol and has made good hits to 700 as I have seen posted here before. I am in awe of that shooting and would just like your/all opinions of when or if does it lose practicality? Just curious of thoughts not trying to question or justify another persons shooting.........

Good and valid question.
This was built specifically for bench use in a long-range handgun match.
Like BR matches for rifles, where the rifle ends up not bearing much resemblance to a hunting rifle, so we have the same here.
This set-up is not for hunting, although...If you were hunting prone in a wide open field with a SEB Rest that had F-Class feet on the elevation legs so they don't slip deep into the ground, it would make a deadly LR combination.

In reality it would be two heavy and bulky to carry very far.
But, since this is a switch barrel/switch stock specialty handgun, I can either leave the 7WSM barrel on and put the McRee stock on it.
Or put the 6.5 Leopard (WSM) barrel on it, and now I have a practical and accurate LR hunting rig.
I shoot more from field positions than I do from a bench, but when I shoot at pd's I like to shoot from a portable bench.
I have some specialty handguns that have 14-15 inch barrels and weigh around 5-7.5 pounds with optic on it that I shoot distance with as well.
More than anything, I just like to shoot these specialty handguns and the unique challenges they can bring.

Guys , as Ernie has mentioned ...Eric does Exceptional work , a Very Talented man .These are very Specialized Rigs , I think this one of Ernie's is the 5th maybe 6th one Eric has built in the last couple years.
I shot mine all last season ,in 1000 yd Heavy Gun Bench Rest Matches. If your interest runs along these lines ,Eric is the man on these for sure.
These pics of my Candy Cane where taken before Eric put the Aluminum Rails on ... but they will give you another perspective...These things Track like a dream..

Spent time doing case prep for the 7mm WSM:
Opening the neck up slightly with the K&M Expandiron die, Cleaning up the necks with a K&M Neck turner, inside chamfering the the case lip, de-burring the flash hole and uniforming the flash hole, resizing the neck with a Redding comp bushing die to correct size. I will still need to uniform the primer pocket but I am almost done with these 200 cases.

Practicality here? Not on this one.
This is an intentional build to use in in LG class against rifle out to 1K, and in a benchrest LR handgun comp in their heavy gun class.
Also for LR dogging.
Field shooting is different, and so is hunting.
I lightweight MOA Maximum handgun is short, portable, lightweight compared to the bolt rigs and is very accurate.
