Im looking for some experience with the 80 gr Sierra Blitz and/or Nosler BT. My Tikka seems to like bullets in the 80 - 90 range the best. I had a killer load with the 87 gr vmax but those are near impossible to get right now. I figure the 80 gr bullets would be the best for me. I want a bullet heavy enough to knock the crap outta some yotes but also flat enough to point and squeeze out to 300. Any experience with one or the other? Or a preference to one over the other? If it helps, hides arent terribly important to me. Dead dogs are priority as that equals more live calves and lambs. Thanks!

I just ordered 1K 87 gr vmax bullets from Midway @ 18.99 per 100.

What is the load you are using for the 87 gr vmax?

Without my notes in front of me, I dont remember the OAL but I do remember it was 10 thou off the lands. Velocity was around 3100 and grouped under half minute consistantly.

You said you just ordered the 87 vmaxs? Are they no longer on backorder? I canceled an order with them not too long ago after waiting almost 3 months.

Are you shooting a Tikka T3 lite?
I'm looking at getting a 243 for longrange plinking and hunting game coyotes and smaller. Was wondering if you liked your tikka in 243? I have one in 270.

It's a T3 Lite Stainless. I absolutely love it. So far it has digested everything I've thrown down the pipe and done it well. My only complaint is the 10 twist. If it had a 9 twist, it would be even better. I only use it for coyote hunting at moderate ranges so I guess it's not a big deal only using light to midweight bullets. The 87 gr vmax gets me out to 500 pretty well barring hurricane winds. I'm sure more capable hands can get more range than that.

I use 95gr NBT or 95gr Hornady SST over 35gr Varget out of my Rem 700 CDL-SF 243 and Rem 7 Predator 243, They both shoot extremly well, And Noslers and SSTs are easy to get and coyotes dont walk off w those.

I had to give this load a try out of my Rem 700 BDL 243 because I use H4831sc for three other rifles. It shot a one ragged hole @ 100 yards once I got the seating depth correct.

I don't recommend this load for Rem brass as I split a few case necks.

Thanks for the load info!

Try the 88gr Berger VLD FB Varmint.

Glad it shot well for you! It's not the fastest load I've used but it has been the most consistant in my rifle. I've yet to try rem brass but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
