Has anyone shot the TC Venture (in 300 Win Mag) out past 800 yards or to 1,000? Waffling between this rifle and the Savage/Stevens 200 in 300 WM. My main purpose is target shooting LR, and hogs and coyotes. Any input greatly appreciated. New to the site & really enjoying it.

Super_r1: thanks for your input. I'm interested in the 5R rifling on the barrel and am wondering if that would make up for the fact that you can't change the stock on them.

Hillrunner: Im not sure about changing the stock on them. I really have not looked into changing mine. My venture has a bipod and scope and is still really lite so i can use it for hunting. I am now wondering if it is possible to change the stock. Will have to look into this.

Super_r1: on a Cabela's forum (from2009, I think) someone said it states in the owner's manual that the stock can only be removed by a gunsmith. That's why I was wondering about it. Maybe the newer models are different? Check your manual and let me know.

Hillrunner: I looked thru my manual again and I seen a few places where it said do not disassemble if you are not comfortable and let a gunsmith do it. Do not modify if you dont know what your doing because someone could get hurt. The usual Warning stuff. I have been looking for someone that makes an aftermarket stock and have not found one. I think one may be modified to fit but i have never done one to know what im looking for

If you want to modify the rifle look else where as there are no aftermarket parts for them. The cartridge is capable of what you are asking but only the rifle and you will decide if it is capable of shooting that far.

Hillrunner: Your welcome for the info and link. If you do get the venture post some pics. I almost bought a 300 win mag I sometimes wish I would have. But the 308 was a good choice for my first rifle and ammo is not to costly. I only plan to hunt out to 400 yds so my .308 should do great. If i have a chance i really want a 338 edge for my long range hunting gun.

^^^^^^^What he said....

If you like to upgrade (even if you don't right now you will if you hang around here:D), there is nothing out there for the TC. On the other hand there is a plethora of parts/upgrades for that savage, most of which offer the possibility of doing yourself. If you truly want a LR "plinker" I would have to recommend the Savage hands down, just for the end user flexability.

Just my .02.
