What rangefinder do you use?

Just wondering what rangefinders people are using for longrange shooting/hunting? are you using one that compensates for angles/ballistics?
i have been looking at the leica 1600 and the new G7 model and it looks impressive its quite a bit of money, but i dont mind spending it if its worth it. I hate buying a cheaper model just to turn around in a few month and buy a better one.

I have a Swaro that i love it is expensive but I have it to be well worth the money. I have no issues gettting the correct ranges at long distance. Mine does not comp for the angles but I do have a ACI on the base of my scope that will give me the correct angle to compensate for. I recommend it

Love my Swaro. Bangs outs ranges to 1600-1700 yards no problem. Refreshing after my Bushnell ARC 1000 that struggled to range 500 yards. Cameraland rocks (Demo $749 I think paid).

I am really satisfied with my Zeiss PRF it does all the ranging i need it to out to around 1200 could probably go a little farther.
I always here good things about the Swaro never used one tho.
The Leica 1600 is will get you out to the 2000 yard mark.
Beyond that LRFs that range in the 2000+ yard arena are all absurdly expensive military stuff like 5k-10k+. Vectronics PLRF 15 and and some other ones doubt you want to spend that much unless your guiding in a CBU on a herd of hostile zombie elk.

I would not reccomend A leica 1600 last hunting sceason it did not like cold 8 below. My swaro worked find. Last week i was shooting from 1100 yd out to 1,450 with my 338 AX The leica would not work it was a bright day but the Swaro worked find. The Leica worked find to about 800 yards. Get a Swaro or get one from skip G7 at long range pursuit. Hope this helps. Joe

That sucks yours broke down on you.
A few of my friends have the lecia 1200 they all like it and have had no problems.
What happened with it did you send it back to leica?

That said I agree with you that the swaro is probably a better deal.

I use the Leica 1600 and love it. I have ranged objects out to 1400 and animals out to almost 1000. For what I do it's perfect.

Had a very old Leica that finally gave up. Sent it back to Leica with no warranty paperwork hoping for the best. About a month later received a new 1600, no charge with apologies that they couldn't fix the old one as it was discontinued. Nice to see a company stand behind their products without all the hassles one usually needs to hop through. The 1600 has performed perfectly the last two years. EJ

I have a Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 that is 10+ years old. When I hunt with my brother I use his Swaro Laser Guide. If money was no object for me I would have a Swaro too. The only place my Bushnell beats the swaro and Leica is in snow and rain.

This last fall (2010) we had falling snow for part of the day and the Leica and Swaro would not range past 46 yards. Both read the same distacne. My bushnell and the Nikon one of the other guys had were able to range out to 460 yards from the same spot in the same snow storm.

I would like to check out the Bushnell 1600 and see what it is like, after the 338 build, the new scope and the Colt 1911 I am picking up this fall $$ is in short supply, and the swaro may not come to be for another year or more.

I have ranged out to 1066 in hunting conditions (with the 1000) off of a rock or tree on an elk hunt with the bushnell and zapped a house at 1200+ one everning after the sun had set. Getting a return on animals past 600 with the Bushnell 1000 is a very rare event.

The swaro has a much tighter beam than my Bushnell. The swaro has a delay after you push the button to get a yardage reading. I like this since there is no preasure from my finger on the button making it shake. I think this helps get farther readings. I know others do not like the delay but I really like it.

My Bushnell takes a 9V and the Swaro takes a 123 or smaller battery. I can not remember off hand........It's the CR2 battery. I think the new Bushnell 1600 Takes the CR2 battery too.

I use a lrf 1200 and love it!

I find it easier to hit long range targets with the leica vs. the swaro due to the smaller reticle in the leica. The large circular reticle in the swaro make it easy to have ranging errors. They are both great other than that.

I have heard more than one complaint about the lrf 1600 but none about the 1200.
