I am from Washington state. WA is a great mule deer state. I hunt them in the Columbia basin in knee high sagebrush/ basalt rock deserts to the 9,000 foot cascades and everywhere in between.
I have been wanting to hunt them on the great plainsfor a while. I was thinking Kansas, Nebraska or SD. Anybody want to give me some leads? I'm looking for arias with good public access and a non-resident rifle season.
Would like info on hunting muleys in the desert SW too. I want to hunt in the South desert (yes... I know the N.AZ units are better)
I'll trade info on Washington for equaly good info from you.
Thanks for the help guys

Of those states I think Nebraska has the easiest non-resident deer tag availability.

From what I've seen, if you are looking for a wall-hanger buck in SD then you will be hunting private ground. Good luck finding a ranch to hunt, unless you can pay a couple grand per gun. Don't get me wrong, there are a few nice bucks killed on public ground out here but they are few and far between.

bob i bet this is south of 20-26. i will be hunting north of hy. 20-26 this year. oh well. now i'm going to have deer dreams tonight! LOL

This is the buck from the first video....I filmed him in early September and then he dissappeared for about 2 1/2 months. We killed him only a few hundred yards from where I shot the video..he went 190" B&C.

Gonna try to kill the other buck this fall...he should be over 190".

HuntOkanagan - where are you hunting muleys in Washington. I have been looking for good muley areas for the past couple years in Washington and have not found an area that has alot of muleys. I usually end up coming back to the West side and shooting a blacktail. Believe it or not, in Washington I have had more success on Blacktail than any other deer species. I grew up in Oregon hunting Muleys in the Southeast of the state and am hot to trot on finding a good core area to hunt in Washington. Thanks in advance for putting me on the right track.
