Need help gun shooting 2 foot high

I installed a new timeney trigger last weekend. Had to do minor inleting for bolt release and safety. After reassembl, I took to the range and the gun shot 2 foot high and to the right. Group is great just off. The scope was not bumped that I know of. The gun is a rem 700 adl 30-06. Has a 15 moa base on it but has never shot this high. Any help would be great!

Sounds like the barrelled action didn't go back down in the stock all the way. Never heard of or seen an aftermarket trigger cause this. JohnnyK.

I'm sure it isn't the trigger. I am just at a loss as to where to start looking. I guess if it isn't in the proper place it can jump around when fired and sling the bullet high?

I'm assuming you got 2 ft to the right and high at 100 yds??? That's a bunch - has the stock been bedded - I would guess some difference could be torque on your screws not being set at what they were previously but 2 ft is a lot.

I would take that sucker apart again and after putting it back together see what happens. Something didn't settle back to what it was previously. Any chance you had a scope mount or base screw come loose? There is no chance that you were shooting different ammo than previously??

Bottom line is it could be any of a dozen different things - process of elimination.

I would say what cowboy had to say about the screws not being torqued right. Something seems to be out of place in assembling.

My guess is you have done what plenty of people have done and that is not getting the mag box in correctly. Take the stock off and make sure the mag box is not binding when you torque the screws down......Rich

The action is not beded at all. Th barrel is floated though. It is in the orginal stock it came with. The ammo I was shooting was from a lot that I had made a few months ago adn have shot before. Was shooting great. Still groups great! Just way high. There was a question as to my comment on high and right. I didnt miss type. It is 2 foot high. I am going to take it to the range and try the things you guys suggest so keep them rolling in. thanks again for all your help!

Really? I have never heard of that. That isn't like the sky hook now is it?

I don't think it is the barrel because it is grouping so good. My Programing teacher always said, undo the last thing you did. so I'm thinking it is in the stock some where. possibly a clip issue or something not sitting correctly.

I hope he's a good programmer or teacher ... so, did you undo the trigger?

I will restate what I posted earlier. I would say there is a 90% chance that your mag box is not seated into the groove in the action properly and is keeping the action and stock separated which causes tremendous torquing on the action thus causing your problem. Take the stock off, check the mag box and you will likely find it is bound. When you place the action back in the stock, it should fit flat at the forend AND at the tang before you even torque it down. This is a VERY common problem when the stock is removed from a 700 Remington.....Rich

this is absolutely true i just went through this. while getting my rifle zero'd i was having trouble getting shells to load. so i took my rifle apart and reset the mag. when i went back to shooting it was so far off i couldnt call it. so i took the rifle back apart the mag was not correctly installed. fixed it, went back to zero.
