Stuck cases

I just started loading for my 338 Edge and I am having trouble with cases getting stuck in the dies. I have only sized 75 rounds and have had 4 cases stick. I am using Hornady 1 shot lube just like I have with all my other dies. The dies are the Redding Competition dies. Any idea why these would stick worse than my RCBS dies I use for my other calibers or is there something different I should be doing?

I don't know. But, I'm curious because I was thinking of building a 338 Edge.

Did the dies come custom made from Redding?

Or, did someone ream them for you?

They are Defensive Edge dies with the micrometer seater. I really like the dies because of the micrometer seater with neck bushing (better than my micrometer RCBS) and the sizing die has 2 stem caps (it has one for expanding and one just used when resizing brass that is already expanded to 338). I'm just not sure why I am having a problem with cases sticking because I have not had this problem before.

I use the same stuff and had some stick in the RCBS dies i had. i found that you needed a really good amount sprayed on the cases and spray it up in the die as well. plus you have to give the lube time to dry are they will stick. i still use the 1 shot but spray really good and let it dry no more trouble.

I Had the same problem... I bought some to try not long after it came out and I stuck cases no matter how much I sprayed on... I asked around on other websites and other people had the same problem, turns out there were a few batches made that had this problem.. I went back to the old school lube and pad ...Never have a problem with sizing that way..

Throw the One Shot away, and get yourself a tin of imperial sizing wax. Should take care of your problem.

I have been using Dillon spray lube since 1993. I have never had one stick in a die, but only reload 30-06,243,308,270,45 acp,9 mm+ 243 wssm and a few others that slip my mind. None of the big cannons though. I believe it has paraffin mixed with alcohol. It comes in a pump spray plastic bottle.

One shot is the only lube I've ever used and gotten a stuck case. You have to be pretty careful how you use it. RCBS case slick has been great for me as was lee's paste. For the case slick I'll just throw a bunch of cases in a ziplock bag hit them with a couple sprays then tumble the bag a little.

I'm a strong believer in Imperial Sizing Wax and Dry Neck Lube. But, since you've been using the spray lube successfully for some time now, that's not the only issue.

Are you necking up 300 RUM to 338?

Are you lubing inside the case neck?

Do you need to polish your expander?

Do you have the bushing dies?

Have you measured the expander and your brass neck thickness and your bushing to perform minimal work hardening?

You might want to consider a K&M expander mandrel and do the necking up in a separate step from sizing the case.

They are the bushing dies and I am using a .364 bushing. The necks are already expanded when I am full length sizing because I do that in another step so there is not even an expander being used, just a cap with a pin. I have used 375 and 300 RUM brass. Another weird thing that I also noticed is that if I try to size them slower they stick worse. The way I found that seemed to stick the least was leaving the cases wet and sizing pretty quickly. I may try letting it dry a bit longer than I was originally as others suggested. The cases I had get stuck seemed pretty dry but maybe they weren't so I'll let them sit longer and see if they do as well as the wet cases. If this stuff doesn't work I guess I will go with the sizing wax and give it a try, like you said the lube hasn't been a problem before but maybe it is going to be this time. I love the imperial sizing die wax. I rub a little on with my fingers and size. Never had one stick. Wipes off easy with paper towel when loaded. Matt
