neck size issue....

I'm having a bizarre issue. Lee collet dies, 25-06, Lee press. It doesn't matter if I use winchester or remington brass but about 1 in every 20 or so loads thru the decapper and neck sizer the neck doesn't get sized down enough. Of course I don't recognize this until I put the bullet in the brass and it just falls thru. In a 90 round batch tonight I had 7 that did this. I ended up popping out the primer and resizing (without readjusting the die) and then they work fine.

Any ideas?

How many times have the cases been fired? Do you anneal the case necks?
Was it a particular brand of brass that was not getting proper neck tension? More rem, or more win.

Brass has been fired 3 times. Was both brands, and no annealing.

OK here goes.one thing I have come to do with a Lee collet die is to deprime first.this allows you the loader to feel the collet while running the brass into the die alot better.at first I too was getting the same as you.but after I choose to remove the primer first then I felt a big difference when rizeing the neck.

one other thing to do is to polish the collet and cone that the collet slides into.then putting a little grease on the cone.this will help out in many ares.it want stick anymore unless you just use to much pressure to size with.and help the die its self.trust me you do not want the collet to stick.it will just make you some what made.the shoulder will be pushed in.

but try the removeing of the primers frist to see if you can tell a great difference.you should.and for me I just do put enough pressure to let the coolet do its job.even on my Rock chucker press I just do put one turn in the die after it touches the shell holder.then use an index to tell me that I have put enough pressure to resize the neck.but hey tese are things that I have done and use.so take it for whats it worth to you.
