Hi guys. I am thinking of getting some .280 Norma brass to form into my Sherman cases. Has anyone done an accurate measuring of difference in case capacity between Norma, and say, RP or WW. I know most of the '06 size cases that I have checked between WW and RP, the WW cases generally hold about two grains more. I am thinking that maybe Norma holds a little less since they are supposed to be stronger? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks..............Rich

I have used three different brands of brass for my 280 Rem and here is what I have found. First I am a great fan of Norma brass for my WSM's(270WSM, 300WSM). It is stronger, heavier and more uniform than RP, or WW. And yes the case volume is a little smaller. I found that the Norma brass for my 280 was not heavier, or stronger than the RP brass that I now use almost all the time, but it was larger in volume, and was softer. This is just my experience some may have a different opinion or experience, but I now use RP and some Nosler brass when I load my 280 and not Norma, even though I love the Norma for WSM's.

Thanks a lot! I wouldn't have guessed that, but that is why I asked the question before spending in excess of $100. Does anyone know of 6.5x65 rws brass for sale? I saw some on Natchez site for $32/20 but that's a little stiff. Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? What is the "new brass" length?. I would buy some good used stuff as well if anyone knows of any.....Rich

Rich,
MidwayUSA is selling loaded RWS ammo for $22-$26 per 20. Just got an email from them. Pull bullets and powder or shoot'em!:D

Just got some new RWS brass in 300WM. Case weight averages 273 grains compared to Win brass at 249 grain average.

Headspacing on new RWS brass was same as new Win brass at 2.250".

RWS trim lengths varied by .008" over a batch of 100 pieces with about 20% .001" under minimum trim length.

Runout at the neck was great at .001" and less.

My only concern was that the 100 pieces of new RWS brass ranged in weight from 271.0 to 275.0 grains.

I guess you can't believe the hype that RWS only varies by 2 grains in weight.

Hell Elkaholic!

I forgot to post the grain difference I found between RWS
brass and Win brass! Sometimes I wonder about myself.
I filled both RWS and Win NEW brass up to top of necks after trimming with Ramshot Magnum. I tapped sides of cases and topped them off to level again. Win brass held 2 grains more than RWS in 3 tests.

I have not shot the RWS yet...

Thanks a lot Randy! That is kind of what you would expect with the heavier brass (2 gr. difference). That is what I usually find between WW and RP. The variation is a little concerning but I may try some loaded stuff just for fun.....Rich
