MOA help!

Hello, I am fairly new to long range hunting but I have a couple of questions. Ok I have a millett trs-1 4-16x50 with 1/4 MOA target knobs. I am shooting Remington core lokt 150 grain bullets and I just need to know how many "clicks" or moa I need to Adjust to make shots for 100 yards to 700 yards.

Josh, to be able to give you an idea, you need to give more information.

What are you shooting them in? 270, 30-06, 300 Winch Mag, 300 RUM...
What's the scope height? Distance from center of scope to center of barrel vertically?
Do you happen to know the bullet BC? Have you Chronographed it.
What's barrel length? just in case you don't know the MV.

Just give some of those answers.

Oh man, I thought i put the cartride in there but guess not. Its a mossberg .270 with a 22 inch barrel and the sight height, I'm not very sure about that one. The scope has a 30mm tube and a 50mm lens and it is mounted on high rings. There is barely any room to fit scope caps on the front without having to touch the barrel so I'm not sure if that will help you any...

Josh, think of an imaginary straight line that goes clear through the center of your barrel's bore. This would be the bore-line.

Also think of an imaginary line the goes clear through your rifle-scope. Dead center of the scope.

Now using a measuring tape, or dial calipers (keeping away from scratching your scope's ocular lens) just measure the best you can the distance between these two
lines. 90 degrees to both lines, in other words the closest distance is what you want.

You could partially take the bolt out and measure from the center of the bolt the the center of the rifle scope. (Close enough) That'd be your scope height.

That's why we're getting the info. for.

Tell me about what elevation you're going to be shooting at and I'll
try to make a drop chart that would only give you an idea of what's
going on. Reason is we would be guessing the muzzle velocity or just
taking the factory's given velocity, factory given BC... it'd be very hard
to get something very accurate; but after some shooting and testing we
should be able to use that information to get closer to a better drop chart.

The Elevation about you'll be hunting would take a different chart if there is
a great difference. But that comes later.
 
Well, I hunt mainly in two places. A huge open place in wickes, Arkansas with the elevation of approx. 1,030*ft (314*m) and then a place in Texas with the elevation of 591*ft (180*m)
 
Josh, the bullet you're using is not the best choice for long range.

Values in read mean velocities are subsonic. So about 550 will be your max range
with that type of bullet since the BC is pretty low.
The one on the left zero is at 200 yds and the other one at 100 yds.

You need to shoot at different ranges and measure what it does. Do at least 3 shot groups and measure to the center of the group. And we'll see what it does.

So this is for 150 grain bullets correct? And what bullet type and grain should you suggest I use? I like the core lokt bullets because they expand big and make big holes

Yes, 150 gr. That's a good hunting bullet, the problem is its mighty low BC (Ballistic Coefficient). By looking at the table below, from remington, you see that the 150 gr. drops 61.2" at 500 yards and the Premier Accu tip drops only 37.7" and the Premiere Scirocco Bonded drops 38.2".

Ohhh I see... Well I'll probably move it to 130 grain and use the accutips if they are good at expanding. Ive heard either one shot and it drops or you won't find it because it won't leave a blood trail (accu tips)

The higher the BC the better... Just make sure that whatever you use shoots good in your rifle. The Siroccos are excellent from what I hear, though I've never used them on game.

Note:
ALL DROP CHARTS WERE CALCULATED FOR AN ELEVATION OF 88 FEET. I FIGURE FOR YOUR HUNTING AREAS AN ELEVATION OF 750 FEET WOULD BE A GOOD AVERAGE.

FOR TESTING THE LOADS WHERE YOU LIVE, WE NEED TO CALCULATE DROP CHARTS FOR THAT ELEVATION. LET ME KNOW...
 
I have decided to use the premier accutip 130 grain bullets. Can you make me another moa drop chart like the one you made for the 150 grain? or shoul i just use the same chart? i really like these 130 grain accutips better. i have it sighted in at 100 yards. i just need a chart like the last one to make the long shots
