which seating depth

I have been anxiously engaged in load tuning for my new custom 7 WSM. I'm shooting 180 berger VLD's. I have narrowed it down to 2 groups which are shooting in the high .3's. Both groups are pretty much identical in size. One load is .010 off the lans while the other is .051 off the lans. So do I go with the .050 because it is a hunting round. The .051 group is shooting a vertical string with a few bullets through the same hole while the .010 group is more of a triangular group with a few through the same hole. Any suggestions would be appreciated. These are 7 shot groups

OK, you have to explain this one. Something does not compute, but then that has been said about me before.

1. Is the group both horizontal and vertical? Normally that would be called a "circle or group".

2. To get that type group AND bullets thru the same hole it takes more than 3-5 bullets. Just how many bullets are you firing?

3. Are the groups repeatable? Do they have the same group size 3-4 time or is this a one time group?

sorry for the confusion that was a typo. the .051 group was a vertical string while the .010 group was triangular. I was shooting 7 shot groups. I shoot a cold bore shot and than two groups of 3 with the barrel cooling between groups. The second group was essentially in the same cluster as the 1st group.

Shoot em at 300+ yards. Try both loads as far out as you can with no wind. Load differences are hard to pick out at 100 yards, and 180 bergers aren't 100 yard bullets. 4-500 yard groups should answer your question for you.

I agree 100% I have said before 100 yards is for load tuning a single pump BB gun.
