Noob question...20moa?ring heighth?

Hi guys/gals....I need some info help please!!!
I am building a "long range"set up out of my Tikka T3 .300wsm
Im only planning on taking a max 600+ish yard shot with this rifle btw (varmint)
and up to 400+ ish yards on deer.
I got lucky with this rifle and it REALLY shoots btw...sub moa groups
I had Leupold build a reticle for my vx-2 3x9 and it worked great but I decided to step up and put some "real" glass on it.
I purchased a Leupold mark 4 4-14x50 for it already...sitting in the safe
now it's time for mounts and rings.
My question is....do I wand the EGW 20moa base or a flat one?
also...I think I have decided on the Nightforce Ti/aluminum rings but what height
do I want?they have two "high" choices....

I would just be guessing at the ring height for your setup. I think I'm using medium rings with 20MOA bases and a couple of 40mm objectives and a 56mm VX3L with the cut out at the bottom. ...and, varying barrel profiles. They all have more than necessary clearance which may be less than ideal, but the scopes/rifles all interchange easily.

I would go with 20 MOA for the base. It's better to be limitted slightly in your windage adjustment up close rather than far away. Unless you're shooting in gale force winds, then you'll be fine while keeping your options open for long range.

GET THE LOW RINGS! .885 (low) NF rings hold a 56mm NF on my sendero and the exact same scope on my .308. You wont care for the clearance the others will provide. That scope has 100 MOA of travel, so for that distance the extra 20 in the base shouldnt be necessary. However, I believe that its better to have and not need, then need and not have. As time passes your gonna want to stretch the legs and may need it, It cant hurt to have it is the bottom line.

Great choices and rifle, you are going to want the low rings. As for the base, at the distances you described and beyond you really dont need 20 MOA of base adjustment. We tend to get carried away with these bases and then are scopes are centered at 800 plus yards.

So funny...Nightforce just returned my call from the other day...told me to use the low rings!you guys nailed it...

I ordered them from op....2-4 weeks out!!!!!now the wait starts...
I ended up getting the 20moa base btw......

You are correct and it's probably moot with the amount of adjustment built into the NF scope and no particular desire to shoot extreme ranges.

But on the whole, I'd rather be centered at 800+. The closer in you get, the less windage adjustment you need.

So, I don't see the downside of 20 MOA. ...unless it forces you to get taller rings than you would otherwise need. But, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

...perhaps there are disadvantages I'm unaware of?
