What are the options of getting said rifle to feed larger shells? I would really like to do something with my old clapped out 30-06 and would like your thoughts on which way to go. The bolt face will be opened up, and I will change stocks to accommodate, but how would I get the action to feed rounds like the 338RUM? If it's a money pit, I'm wasting brain cells on it, but if it can be done cheaply I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I'm not a 30 cal "fan" so either 7mm or 338 are my options while I'd really like a 338 RUM. 7 Rem Mag may be the biggest I'd go in 7mm due to barrel life (not dedicated hunting rifle- I like to shoot), unless y'all know something better to change to in the 7mm caliber. What can I do with my 30-06 that is worthwile?

A penny for your two on the subject, and thanks for your time.

Tim.

wyatt do a centre feed 4 inch magazine for the Rem 700 LA that will control the feeding of any of the rounds you are talking about, it will need the rear of the mag to be milled and the bolt stop to be shortend

It's no big thing to make your 30-06 into a 338 RUM. You'll need to open up the bolt face of course. A sako extractor conversion will fix you up great and cost around $100 installed. As mentioned a Wyatts extended mag box in either the MBE3 for the staggered feed or the CFE9 for the center feed. The MBE3 has an internal case capacity of 3.825" and the CFE9 has an internal case capacity of 3.99" . The actions magazine mortise will need to be altered, the feed rails opened up to accept the larger case and the bolt stop modified as well. The MBE3 with installation will run about $85. The CFE9 with installation will run about $125. The CFE9 is great because your almost guaranteed not to have feeding problems with a center feed mag box.

This is the one he is talking about.

Kevin, that is an awesome little vid on your website. I should put something like that together. Thanks for the help guys, so how many rounds would I be able to feed from my ADL when modded with the CFE9?

Now, what about the detachable magazines. Something I'd like to do is install a Bell and Carlson A2 style stock seen here:

Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist A2 Style Remington 700 SPS BDL Savage 10/12 Weatherby Vanguard Howa 1500 Vertical Grip 2092, 2096, 2997, 2998 & 2999

If I do, I would need bottom metal right? Then, what's stopping me (besides money) from getting the detachable mag system? Is this system any good and can a gunsmith install it easy enough? What would be the typical price on installing this on an ADL going into a BDL stock?

The price of DBM's compared to a CFE9 is why most do not use a DBM. Also, most DBM's won't let you seat the bullet as far as a CFE9.

geargrinder, that CFE-9 is for BDL rifles. Can it be installed in my ADL??? I am researching it now for purchase.

The ADL box is taller.

You may have to add to the BDL box.

I have cut the ADL boxes down to work in a BDL but adding to the BDL can be challenging.

Man, that is SO not what I want to hear. I need to get this ADL that was originally 30-06 to feed 338RUM rounds without too much work... (or money...)

I can't afford the BDL stock and bottom metal right now, but I'd like her to be a repeater...

Maybe you should consider another calibre, seeing as you said this is not a dedicated hunting rifle you might find the 338 a little too much for a day of paper punching 90+grns of powder per shot isn't cheap to run, depending on the type of game you hunt have a look at the 7wsm it might just do everything you need, cheap to load for and no oal problems.
