Trijicon 5-20X50 help

I just returned from the range with my newly acquired Rem 700 xcr long range tactical chambered in 300 winmag. It sports a 5-20 trijicon, badger rings and a US optics 20 moa base. At 100 Yds the scope is mechanically bottomed out and the rounds are impacting 11 minutes high. The scope has 51 minutes of internal elevation adjustment Anyone else experience this with this scope. If so, simply put, how do I fix it.....personally I think buying a nightforce is the only option:). But if I could make this optic work it would be great, its got incredibly clear glass. Is it possible to get this rifle to shoot out to a 1k yards with this optic and still have the ability to adjust for short range work? I keep trying to do the math but keep confusing myself. Any insight is appreciated.


UPDATE.......Figured it out, I've got everything all wrong. I was under the impression that I had a total of 25 moa of internal adj but I was way wrong. I don't know why i didn't catch it before. Must have gotten over excited about mounting up the scope(thats when I first counted the total internal adjustment). I spoke to Trijicon today and they straightened it out. Kinda had a lightbulb moment. How could I possibly have a scope with 25 moa of adj when everyone reports at least 40?. So I re-counted the total elevation which ended up a total of 51 minutes. Now according to my calculations, if I am 11 minutes high at 100yds with a 20moa base, my POI will be 9 minutes low with a 0moa base. Dialing 9 minutes up will bring me to a 100 yd zero which leaves me with about 42 minutes of elevation before i max out. Should be plenty of adj for 1k yards according to my calculator. DUH! Thanks for the input guys. :cool:

Remove the 20 MOA base and go with one with no slant. Those scopes are okay for under 1K glass, not great but pretty okay.
 
MOA bases, as good as the USO may be, are not always accurate and there can be differences in the action elevation causing error as well, possibly both. Try a zero or 10 MOA base and try to alianate the problem. These things can be frustrating I know.
 
I am using a EGW 20MOA base/w Burris XTR rings and have 12 MOA left at the bottom on mine. Something not adding up rightlightbulb. You may have received a wrong base or ring! This has happened to me before or should I say trefore :rolleyes: Bill Maylor..

how would you compare the glass to other high end glass? I'm curious, I looked through a trijicon 5-20 and thought it had really nice glass. Much better than Leupold. For my eyes I thought about as good as Zeiss Conquests. Have you looked through the Vortex viper pst glass?

Also, for the original poster. I'd remove the slanted base and try a 0 base. Or remount the scope after you zero or center up the adjustments.
 
Probably not what you want to hear, but I had a Remington 700 SPS Tactical that I could not get zero'd at 100 at all. Totally out of adjustment windage and elevation.

I had to send the rifle back to Remington and all they did was bend the barrel and ship it back to me.

Never been happy with Remington since I started in long range shooting. YMMV.

Yeah, I read it, trying not to jack the OP's thread. I really like some of the Trijicon features, but like the author of the article says, the reticle could be better. I like the Viper PST FFP reticle, alot! So, I'd like the Trijicon with the EBR-1 reticle please! Even better- EBR-2 reticle.

However, to get back on topic, how was the author getting to 1500+yds if the OP can't get to 1k? I'm not understanding this.
 
See here's the thing about Trijicon scopes, They are made for quick target acquisition! There reticles are thicker because of the Tritium Phosphor Lamp. which makes them glow in the dark. I dont think Trijicon intended for these scopes to be used for 1000yrd paper work. Thats not why I bought mine. I have other glass for that. I did not pick up in the article how they were shooting 1500 Yards eather! Owning one, seeing the target at 1500 yds is not a problem:D. Bill Maylor..

I would say the glass compares very well to a conquest, but is lacking when compared to high end scopes like Zeiss Victory and Hensoldt scopes or the z6. I do not like the clicks on either the vortex or the trijicon. That said I am pretty happy with my Trijicon. It dials okay, as in when I dial back to my 100 yard zero I do not suspect that I will be an inch high. It is a 1K scope it has 1K optics.
I was in the process of switching all my NXS scopes for hensoldts or Preimer reticle scopes but heard some news relating to NXS that makes me think I will be buying some 35mm tubed NXS with much better glass than they have now.

This is exactly what I don't get. Something just doesn't add up. A lot of good info coming out of this thread, thanks guys. I've posted the optic in the for sale section but will pull it if I find a way to make this work. I'd rather not shell out the extra money for a NF but my whole goal with this setup was 1k shooting and if it can't be accomplished with this scope then it has to go. I've got to be missing something.
 
If the scope is bottomed out and he is still 11inches high he has qpprox 115 MOA of elevation he should be able to get way past 1.5K with that. He has too much slant with the 20 MOA base, not too little. Mine is mounted in some modified talleys and when my scope is bottomed out I am 8 MOA low so I have about 96 MOA of elevation in the scope (provided that OPs 104 MOA of total adjustment is correct).
 
I think I figured it out, see first post. Of course its all theoretical until I verify it at the range, but makes sense........I think:)
