Got my 1000 + Yard Yote!!!

I was out by the grain bins and seen a distance yote in the hayfield. I hustled to the house and got my Defiance Custom 300 win built by Dave Young, my Vectronix PLRF10 a sand bag and a couple rounds loaded with 210 Bergers. He was still out there in the mid day sun just looking around. I pulled my Droid X phone out of my pocket, hit the "Shooter" program and entered 10 degrees and 25.63 for station pressure. Then I went prone and set my PLRF10 on top the scope to steady it and ranged the yote at 1008 yards on flat snow covered ground. Punched in the yardage and hit "solution"
It gave me "U22.1" and "L 0.5" I dialed them in and got on the yote. I noticed a slight left to right mirage so I held center shoulder then about 8" left to the back of his ribs. Checked the level, took a breath, 1/2 exhale and held. Lightly touched off the 1 lb Jewell and then watched him fold up dead as a hammer... Whoo Hooo!!! My longest poke on a yote to date!!

This was an awesome test for the PLRF10 and the new "Shooter" program. Looks like both worked flawlessly.

awesome shot, my buddy offered to take me yote hunting the other day, but i had prior obligations with the kids. He called me and said that if i would have came i would have had a 1000+yard shot. He won't shoot at anything over 300. I was kinda disappointed, but maybe next time

Congratulations on your yote. I have a feeling you are are gonna cost me a lot of money. Every time you post about that PLRF 10, I get closer to placing an order. I need the ability to range in flat terrain.

I am curious about how you determined the velocity for this shot. Was this simply a velocity given from a chrono or was this a velocity which was determined from actual drops using the Shooter program?

You're setting some difficult benchmarks for those of behind you.

You've entered the league that contains some hallowed names around here.

You're have also confirmed the paradigm change in the world of Varmint rifles. Remember when the varmint used to be something like a 223 to 220 Swift. Hmmmmmm, them times is a changing.

I have a little over a year before I'm back in serious shooting conditions and am conserving coins and plan to have me one of them there PLRF thingers meet me on my arrival in Idaho.

BTW I have the iPod touch with its ballistic software. It pretty much sux in the user friendly department. The drop chart uses JBM and is spot on but still just a drop chart.

The heads up display only goes to 1k yards and in 25 yd increments. And isn't all that friendly to used.

If you would have been using it instead of Shooter you would have been so ****ed off by the time you pulled the trigger you'd have missed the shot.

That is just outstanding, Broz! The world of flat land, coyote sized RF's must be pretty small. Where did you get your PLRF? Tremendous shot. Hope to get to that place some day!

Thank You all for the kind words. As I have progressed and learned here on this site the last few years the importance of a RF with a small powerful beam has become a must have to me. I was lucky enough to get a chance to buy a used PLRF10 and I am so glad I jumped on it. I was able to range this yote 3 consecutive times with 3 distances with in 1 yard. The most important thing to me about a RF these days is the beam divergence. One of the Rf's with a larger beam would not have pulled this off, especially over snow with full sun.

B&G, note on that screen pic the + and - above and below the distance and the wind value. I didn't have to use it but if the yote was moving farther or nearer or if I wanted to add or subtract wind all I had to do was hit the respective + or - and it corrects the dope automatically ..and fast! And get this, If you go up in range by hitting the plus it jumps to the yardage it takes for another .25 moa. For example, from 1008 the next click was 1013 and .25 moa more up. So you dont have to sit there and keep clicking the up in one yard increments. Pretty cool! And yes, the latest free update for shooter gives you the option to use the U / D and L / R for your corrections. That makes the correction in windage a no brainer as the L / R is exactly what I see when I grab the turret knob on my scope.

As for a 1200 yard yote.... I am a lookin... gun)gun)

Jett, I started with a chronoed velocity and then fine tuned it to match the drops as I don't trust my cheap chrono. Or hardly any of them for that matter. I used the option to pull bullet data for the 210 Berger VLD from the bullet library in the shooters program. I chose the data labled (Litz) as Bryan was instrumental with data for this program.

Jeff: I have not used my program since the update. I usually use altitude and slp. You have had good luck w/ station pressure? It appears that you just whacked a yote at a grand so it obviously is adequate. I thought alt and slp would be closer. ps.. Love the Droid, 49 bucks seems like stealing
