Looking for a new range finder

I have a VERY old bushnell . Only ranges 400yds need some input on a new that will range 1000yds don't want 2 break the bank maybe $500. Any suggestions

leica 1200 should get you close while staying close to your budget. I've seen them for right at 500

Might the Leica do better on small targets in flat country than other models that have a wider beam angle?

I'm always interested in current head to head field trials.

Buy the smallest beam divergence that is in your budget.

Leica for the money can't be beat. I use mine on PD's out to 800 yards while evryone else is fooling around with thier Japan made finders I'm turning turrets and pulling triggers. Plus the glass is so clear you can use it a monooptic. Has no fancy options though.
