Sort of amazing what you can do with a 22lr out to 400 yards

This project has taken a lot longer to get to this point than I expected it to, but I am very pleased with the performance.
I was able to shoot this clone 10-22/MOA handgun (chambered in 22lr) for the first time this fall, but it wasn't feeding correctly.
In spite of that it was shooting lights out at 50 and 100 yards.
Hunting, holidays and winter time have kept me busy.
The weather has been good the past two days, and I had time to run out and do some shooting. I had three different boxes of ammo. I zeroed it at 100 yards, standing, shooting off of a tripod table that was not completely stable.
Got it zeroed and wrote down the MOA for drop and drift.
Then we begin to guess (we were just having fun) at how much MOA it would take to get to 200 yards, then to 300, and then to 400 yards.
We went from one brand of ammo to the next in the midst of this, and all three brands were shooting great.
A local game warden (He is the one I called about the goose") was there and put three in one elongated hole (sub 1/4 MOA) at 100 yards.
First time he had ever shot it-He was happy for sure. He also shot it at 200 with very consistent hits.
My spotter, (Miles) shot it also and hit with relative ease at 200 yards on steel.
When I got on steel at 400 yards Chuck (Mac's Gunworks) called a center hit and I quickly sent another. Tried a third shot but it had jammed.
Those two shots measured 1.5" at 400 yards.
Chuck also told me I had 4 shots at 300 around 2"

Spotting was done with 5-22 NXS scope that was mounted on a custom 7mm SAUM Rifle, and a Leupold 12-40 spotting scope
By the time we got the fire shell out conditions had changed.
There were about 8 people in all out there this afternoon shooting.

Action is a MOA clone 10-22 action that Rich makes MOA Corporation Homepage
Barrel is a threaded Green Mountain.
Laminated stock is one of Rich's. Just put a quick finish on it.
Will round off some of the lines in the future.
Kidd trigger.
Picatinny rail by Rich.
Scope is Leupold VX-3 LR/T 6.5-20 With ART Reticle.
The ART Reticle made it so easy to get on target with, and make quick adjustments trying to get the MOA correct when making 100 yard jumps.
I should have chronoed the ammo, and had an idea of BC, but we were just out having fun. After were finished at distance, I went back to 100, re-zeroed and slipped my dials.
Didn't have time to take it to 500 yards, but don't really see that being an issue given the accuracy we are getting.

Pics are not good, but give you an idea.
I really had fun.
This will be a great wind teaching SP for sure

Ernie that's amazing performance for a .22

Nice pix except those big pieces of rock are kind of distracting.

Thanks guys!

The ammo I used: Remington Club XTRA (manufactured by Eley LTD), Federal Gold Medal Match, Federal Champion.
We were shooting on a 1200 yard steel range that is just outside Chuck's shop, Mac's Gunworks. He has a backer for paper targets at 100 and 200 yards. Steel starts at 200 out to 1200 yards in 100 yard increments.

First, I had a sloped picatinny rail made, as I had this put together with distance in mind.

Second, I am using a 30 mm tube Leupold LR/T.

Third, it has Holland's ART reticle in it Holland's Gunsmithing & Shooters Supply Click on Advanced Reticle Technology.
Holland' reticle is my favorite for LR shooting.
MOA is internally listed in 3 MOA increments, with a dash/line every 1.5 MOA.
This made it very easy and fast to get on target when not knowing BC or MV.
Then once I got to 24 MOA, I dialed from that point on, using the 24 MOA line as my aiming point.

When going to 500, if I run out of MOA adjustment, I will add Burris Signature Zee Rings (can put on 20 MOA there) or have a another sloped rail built.

Shooting distance (after doing your homework and getting your shooting system put together correctly) is more of an issue of what you believe you can or cannot do, than what can actually be done.
You have to be willing to fail to succeed in what many believe to be impossible or highly unlikely.

It definitly gets me back on the long range 22 build...I always wanted to build one,you may have just cost me some money :D

See you got them togeather. Outstanding shooting for a 22.

.....and a PISTOL to beat it all. I have a single shot Remington 40XBR with a medium countour 27" barrel in .22LR, scoped with an older 1" Leupold 36x benchrest scope (1/4" adjustments, JFYI), 2 oz trigger with a safety thanks to Rifle Basix, and added Burris' Zee rings with the -20 MOA inserts up front, and the +20 MOA inserts in the back (yep, +40 MOA scope mounts for a .22 LR! Although, my elevation is about 20 clicks from the bottom of the scope, last I checked).

To be completely honest, I find that joker more fun to shoot than almost any of my firearms.

Prior to the mercury dropping, the barrel was firelapped with the subsonic 60gr. Aquila ammo and the Neco Kit minus the 220 grit, however with more shots of the finer grits (it was an old CMP rifle, and the bore needed a little shining---she's all good now, with the accuracy proving that as well---at 100 yards I can hit a .22 case if I watch the wind). The accuracy even at those distances sometimes amaze me, and it's CHEAP LR practice! It gets even funner at the extended ranges! Ya just have to watch that darn wind, LOL!

Kudos to you brother hitting anything at 1K with a .22 LR, and a PISTOL to beat it all! That's too awesome not to commend you!!!

BTW, Ernie, Darrell Holland build my awesome Rem 700 in a 1-7" Lilja, 6mm Ackely Improved, in his Benchrest stock---what a shooter digesting those 107 gr. Sierras. The man is a genious!

Would you mind giving us a "un-official" price on his ART system? I was actually going to call him tomorrow if I wake up early enough, LOL. I work Second Shift, FWIW, and it takes me a while to wind down.

Thanks!
Let me clarify something, no one was shooting at 1K with a rimfire.
Sorry if I was not clear.
We only shot out to 400 yards with the 22lr specialty pistol.

Are looking at having the ART added to a scope you already have or or buying a new scope from Darrell with ART?

LOL, my bad. Sorry. No, the ART would be installed in a 4.5-14x50 Vari-X III that I already have. One inch tube unfortunately.

When you send in your scope to get converted it costs $450.00
Tell him "Hi" for me when you call.

Will do! And here is a picture of the perfection that he built for me several years ago.

The scope in the pic is a 6.5-20x50 VariX-III. The 4.5-14x50 will be going on another rifle, JFYI.

Nice rifle!

Thanks Ernie! I'm proud of it.

Darrell did a wonderful job, and my only complain was that I wanted to use the factory Laminated Varmint stock, but Darrel said that with my HV Lilja there wouldn't be much wood left---which was probably correct.

Darrell's solution: sell me one of his target stocks (which I love the cheek wield and the LOP is almost right for me). My only problem is that I also wanted to use a Bi-Pod when out in the field, and sling swivels would have been useful.

After a call to Darrell, he offered to install a Versa-Pod stud for FREE, but I already have an awesome Bald Eagle cast iron Y-rest with all the bags for my Rem 40XBR 6mm PPC, so I told him that it was too much effort to ship it back. So she became a bench queen, Lol.

I am thinking of sending the action to Krieger to have a quick twist .308 Win barrel fitted for a switch barrel shooter. Having Nato catridge'd shooting sticks is good! ;^)
