I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on a Remington 40X in 300win mag. I have a friend that has the exact gun and loves it. I've heard some good and some bad things on the 40X based on the caliber. Just wondering before I made a decision.

This is a newer model. Yeah I'm aware of the single shot and pulling the bolt to get a live round out of chamber. I probably wouldn't buy it if it wasn't such a good deal. My buddies is a newer model also and it shoots bug holes. I guess you just never know with a factory gun like that if yours is going to be a shooter or not.

Thanks,

Trey

The 40x use to come from the custom shop (I assume they still do) and fit and finish was
very good

I have 2 40xs one in 308 and one in 30/338 and they both shoot better than I can.

The 40x actions are trued and the OD is turned completely round (If you look at some of
standard actions they are not 100% turned (Round).

They also have the best triggers that Remington makes (They are fully adjustable).

The 30/338 like the 300 Win Mag will not eject a loaded round unless you extend the ejection
port without using the bolt stop release. This has not been an issue and I like the short action
with the 27+" barrel.

Both of mine have hart barrels (Don't know who makes the match barrels for them now) but
if it is a hart it will have a hart stamped on the barrel by the proof marks.

The 40x comes in a single shot and a repeater.

I would not sell ether of mine .

If it is a good price BUY IT.

J E Custom,

This one also has the 27 Hart barrel and a sweet trigger that breaks at 2oz. I quess because of the short action these guns handle real well even with the longer barrel length, kinda like my 24" magnum guns. I guess I'll go pull the trigger on this one tommorow. Thanks guys for the advice.

I think the U.S. military sorta likes em in that calibre

+1 Most of the Snipers used 300 Win Mags and there was factory ammo for it.

A lot of the civilian marksmen like/ used the 30/338 (Almost identical to the 308 Norma mag)
So Remington chambered the 40x in both calibers.
