I use a burris 15-45x60 spotting scope for years, it small lite fits in a back pack. I would like to have some thing stronger but not real heavy. where we hunt it seems like the wind blows 15 to 20 mph daily so need to find a way to hold it steady also.

I use an 82mm KOWA, but it's not even slightly close to what your needs are (way too big). You might go over to Ebay and look to see what you can pick up a 60mm Kowa for, as they're much smaller. yet I think your really wanting something that's water proof and maybe even armored. Optics wise it's very hard to beat a Kowa for less than 150% of the money.

The real reason I'm responding is with the mount. They make heavyduty camera tripods in different lengths (some as short as 12"). Buy a claw mount adapter for the head (bolts to the spotting scope mount), and your home free. The claw mount adapter seems to be much more solid.

assuming your refering to the Kowa, then it would be KOWA. I used a couple dozen different scopes in a semi controled test to determine what I wanted. The best scope I've looked thru was probably a Swarovsky or a Lieca. It's hard to get mirage out of these two! I bought the standard scope from Kowa with the non flourite coated lenses (for shooting I can't see the need). Besides the better scopes cost 50% more dollars. After asking around, I came to the conclusion that the 27X eyepiece was perfect for my shooting. I get zero mirage looking over a blacktop parking lot at 12 noon on a 90+ degree days (bright and sunny). I can pick out the stud on a pop rivit on a down spout at slightly under 400 yards (around 370 yards to be exact). That's what I was after (resolution). I wear glasses, and the eye reliefe is just fine for my beat up eyeballs. Everybody I talked to said you really didn't need anything stronger than 40X, and the 27X I use has served me very well.
