338RUM-338Edge or 338Lapua?

Which is better? If money is not an issue. For long range elk or whatever one would use it for. What are the advantages of each? Or dissadvantages? Would there be a "top dog" of the three?

all are almost ballisticlly equal.

.338 RUM
shorter than the edge by a tiny bit. Runs the same numbers as the edge and about 50fps slower than the lapua. it fits a standard Action better than the other two. Bullets fit the mag better than the Edge without modifacation. factory round benifits. fits standard actions for lightwieght rifles.

.338 EDGE
ballisticlly the same as the .338 RUM, others will argue but i get 2760-2825 depending on the load with a 300 grain SMK out of my RUM. Wildcat. still a great round.

.338 Lapua
a bit faster than the Edge or RUM (about 50fps) but at the sacrifice of needing a bigger action. I feel not enough gain for the added cost in velocity. Excellent brass available.

If going light wieght I would suggest looking at the RUM of .338 NORMA. If $$ is no issue I would go custom on the Norma.
If going with a Heavy Rifle you should look into bigger cases like Lapua AI, the new Lazzeroni (can remember the name), .338-.378, .338 Kahn, .338-.416, .338-408 Chey Tac, .338 Allen mag. Of the big boys I would go with the Allen Mag if money was no option.

i've been getting more and more interested into the 338's too. especially with the introduction of the 300 gr berger. how does the 338 norma compare to these other calibers.

If money is not a concern the 338 Lapua is the best cartridge. The improved better yet. If you want to do about the same thing with cheap brass get the 338 RUM. If you want to push it the 338 Lapua is the fastest of these three by 50-75 fps on average. But excluding that it is still the best of these.

Supposedly the .338 NORMA matches the .338 RUM for velocity but does it out of a 22.5" barrel. Im a little skeptical about that claim, but if it can that would be awsome! It would be ideal for lightwieght, short mountain rifles. Im seriously considering rechambering my .338 RUM to the NORMA but going with a 24" barrel just to see if it can compete with the Lapua. Brass is good, not as good as Lapua brass but still very good. there is an article on it on the main page.
