Hi guys....I know this was discussed on a thread somewhere else but couldn't locate it. I just wanted to update everyone on the problem that I had with my 1600 not working except on "ranging" mode. I sent it in directly to Leica and they delivered a new one today "no questions asked"! It is dumping snow today so I can not fully check it out, but it did range the farthest target that I can see presently at 454 yards through the snow so my guess is, it is ok. Will keep you posted on a better day.......Rich

Good to hear it got resolved! I am having the same problem you were with it not ranging reliably past about 600 yds unless I use the scan mode. Let me know how the new one works.

Also, how long did it take to ship it to them and get a new one back? I don't want to lose it for the whole winter.

Thanks!
Ryan

It took less than three weeks and that included over the holidays. I haven't had a chance to stretch it's legs yet but I will let you know when I do......Rich

I just got one from cabelas, it wouldnt range sagebrush past 197 yards, large rocks past 300, antelope past 540, and took several tries to get a reading at all, i could range a white truck at 540s, i thought it may have been the battery so i replaced it with new and in the dark i was ranging houses at 2040 and moving cars at 1860, as soon as the sun came up i went back outside and the furthest thing i could range was a giant shiny shop at 800, i was pretty disapointed so i called leica and they said it was bad and to send it in so it shipped yesterday. i hope the new one works. they are paying for shipping also.

It sounds like they must have had several out that were bad. The good news is, they are taking care of the problem. We finally have a clear day so I hope to get out and see if my replacement is any better......good luck/Rich

I too had a bad experience. Mine showed up last night, took it out today and compared it side/side to my older LRF 1200.

Long story short, the LRF 1200 beat the crap out of the new CRF 1600!! I was very disapointed to say the least.

I've wrote a long letter and e-mailed it off to Leica. I intend on calling them tomorrow.

The new Leica wouldn't range objects at nearly the same distance as the older 1200 would.

Granted, the 1600 has better optics with a brighter sharper image, is more ergonomical and easier to hold steady (big +'s). The new 1600 has more features and the button is way easier to push. But none of that means a **** if it wont range!!

The older 1200 has a smaller aiming square and is quicker to recover after an attempt at ranging (again, both big +'s in my opinion).

Hopefully their warranty holds up for me and I'll get what I was expecting. If not, I'll request a refund and save my $$ for a Vectronix. ??

WOW, my buddy must of gotten a good one! It blows my 1200 away, objects out to the 1500-1600 range were easy with no misses, over that to just over 1800 took a little work to get it to range consistently but I was very impressed with it conditions were good for ranging that day which undoubtedly helped. I'm trying to stay on the Vectronix path and just make due with my 1200 till that happens.

Well hopefully the replacement or repaired unit will blow my 1200 away too.:)

The 1200 works great out to about the 1/2 mile mark on just about anything I've tried. Some days and some targets I start having problems beyond that distance though. It's gotta be held dead steady on a good size sandbag to get reliable readings on small targets beyond 1/2 mile (the button is hard to push).

I'll get to play with the Vectronix this October. My buddy just ordered one and he should have it within a few weeks! I was kinda hoping the 1600 would sorta "split the difference" and work good for my personal use (without a spotter involved) in the meantime.

Hi guys! I am the one who started this thread and I have some new info. I took my replacement (warranty) out today (overcast sky) and was able to range out to 1000 yards max but not over 700-800 consistently. THAT IS THE GOOD NEWS! Even worse than that; my readings were consistently 7% low at known distances. Thats right, 7%!! Being my second try, I'm going to call Leica and tell them if they can't guarantee that the next one will work as advertised, I would like a refund. Good luck guys.....Rich

That SUCKS!!! You have all the lens protective film of the lenses? I guess I'm glad I didn't get one, I've only played with the one and it was excellent and my buddy sat for a week dinking around with it till an elk walk into range so he ranged a pile with it. They must have something going on cause the 1200 will do better than that!!

Yup, nothing on the lenses! I called Leica and left a message. We'll see what they say?

clearly you rhaving dramas... mine works great, ranging out to 1400+yds in bright midday sun... beam divergence is excellent, can clearly range 2 different objects that are very close together in the FOV by aiming at each one.... the hardest part is holding the darn thing steady.... somone needs to come up with a tripod mount thingy
