Barrel contour selection

Go to the Lilja barrel web site and they have the barrel weight per inch.
You can calculate the entire rifle weight once you figure out to barrel weight. You can reduce weight with fluting.
I have a Sendoro contour 7wsm with a Sightron 8x32 and a Stockade prairie dog special stock and it is pretty heavy to pack all day in the hills. I usually cover 3 or 4 miles a day and with that weight rifle you know you did something. I wouldn't want to pack it on an elk hunt.
If you go with a number 3 contour it should weigh in around 11 pounds or so.
The Sendoro you probably add about 2 pounds.
Call PAC nor and they can tell you what the barrel only will weigh.

I was looking at a pacnor #5(3.93lbs), #6(4.27lbs), but the varmiter sendero(4.41lbs) on paper doesnt seem that much heavier. I think these weights are for a 28" barrel. Will there be significant performance differences between these 3 contours?

I would expect the only difference in a hunting rifle would be after multiple shots.
I don't think accuracy would be much different.
What are you using it for?

Depending on how much "don't mind packing a little weight" is....I would choose one of their sporter or varmint contours with a muzzle diameter of .750 or smaller

My carry-rifle is has a barrel contour similar to their #4 sporter.

Couple of questions.
What will you hunt with it?
Where?
Here is why I ask, if you are hunting pronghorn typically you can handle a heavier rifle, if you are hunting sheep you want as light as you can get.
The where part is the same. High elevations as a pack in deer hunt is way different than a whitetail hunt in Texas.
My rifle hunting rifle is a 300 win mag and has a Hart barrel in the Remington magnum contour with flutes. It weighs in at 10.1 pounds with a Nightforce 8-23x56. My Brother has a Remington Sendoro in 300 win mag set up the same and I haven't weighed it but to pack it is heavy.
The #4 that Trebark has is very similar to the the contour of my rifle. My rifle shoots right around 1/2" at 100 yards, I've had some .300 groups but most of the time .5 to .6 with Berger 190 VLD's.

You should be fine with pac-nor #6, I just order one for my swift in 28" for a coyote walk around rifle. I estimate it to weight around 10bls. I also have a medium palma 26" in 270 win for all my big game needs. it weights in at 14.5bls with a heavy recoil system in the stock. I hunt in the mountains in Idaho and cover any where from 4 to 7 miles a day when hunting. This weight takes some getting used to but make for a great gun and not to bad if you stay in shape. Having a gun that can shot where you point it out to as far as your conformable is worth the weight.

Cool. I dont mind packing a some weight, as i agree its nice to have that rifle that reach out at touch something.
