Greetings from the great Pacific Northwest, the land of rain, rust, and brush.
I've gotta tell ya I'm new at this all the way around. I've stayed away from all those personal web sites because I think they expose too much information. Archery has been my passion for years so my rifle hasn't been shot for decades, and now I found myself right in the middle of this long range stuff. Basically I feel like I've been living under a rock and now I'm coming out shooting. And now I'm venturing into the unknown world of exposing myself on the interweb.
Washington has been my home for 50+ years and I really can't imagine living any place else. Archery here is great, but there has always been that voice in the back of my mind, "Wouldn't it be great to really be able to reach out there….." I started looking at out of state hunts and picked up a rifle that would reach out there. Now I find myself starting from square one, working up loads, practicing, and doing more research than I thought I ever would. Seems like the more answers I get, the more questions I have. I may end up shooting out the barrel before I allow myself the privilege of hunting with it. The last thing I want to do is walk into the woods thinking that just because I bought the rifle and scope all I have to do is pull the trigger. I've seen too many "hunters" go out without preparing themselves and waste resources that belong to all of us. It disgusts me.
So now where am I? Things that used to be easy before now have become a lot more complicated. Back when I was in school we just shot 3 shot groups at 100 yards, LOA was set to factory specs, and life was simple. Now I'm an old dog trying to learn some new tricks from what a lot of you have cut your teeth on. I've got a fair start and I promise that I won't shame the world of long range hunting by going out unprepared. With that in mind, I would sincerely appreciate any words of advise anybody has to offer. Thanks
