25-06 load

For my Rem. Sportsman 78 action ( poor man's 700) blue printed with 26" #6 Shilen SS, H&S Precision stock rifle in 25-06.

49 grs IMR 4350, Rem case, CCI 250 primer, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter, OAL 3.150 If memory serves me it is 30 thousands off the lands. I have been shooting this rifle and load for about 18 years for white tail deer. It hammers them.

Varmint load: 52.2 grs IMR 4350, CCI 250 primer, Rem case, 87 gr Sierra SP, OAL. 3.150 . Red mist city on groundhogs.

For a factory stock Rem. 700 SS 24" barrel.

52 grs H-4831, CCI-BR2 primer, Rem case, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter OAL 3.150 . This load shoots very well in about any 24" barrel rifle for some reason but it does not shoot well in my 26" custom gun.

87 grain Speer TNT w/56.0 grains of H4350. It stays well within .5" and some under .3". Note my rifle only has 1 in 10" twist so anything over 87 grains shoots about 1.5"

I use 57 gr Retumbo and a Sierra gk 117 spbt just touching the lands. 3075 fps and no worse than .75 moa out past 600 yards in my sendero.
I have some 100gr sciroccos I might play with some time. I might try H-1000 or H-4831 with those. I'll try the Bergers sometime too. I'm thinking one of these 2 bullets would fair a little better in the windy country I hunt speed goats.

I used 58 grns H 4831SC with an 85 Nosler BT. I used Winchester brass. This load gave 3600'/sec out of a 26" barrel and pretty consistently shot 1" groups at 200 yds. As flat as my 220 Swift was (55 grn bullets) but with 1/2 the wind drift. The Swift was more accurate however, it would routinely shoot into 1" at 300 yds on a calm day (benchrest of course). This 85 grain load was not overly hot in my rifle, but for some reason I was getting a couple hundred fps better than the load book said I should. Perhaps they were using 24" barrels......I don't remember for sure.

I found the the data, Primer was CCI match. I also used the standard CCI primers and didn't notice much difference in accuracy between the two with most loads in that particular rifle. Bullets were seated .005-.025" from the rifleing.

I also used 53 grns of H4831 SC and a 115 grn Nosler BT at around 3100'/sec.........both loads were consistently 1/2 minute shooters on calm days in my light weight varmint rifle.

Mine is a 100 gr. BT on top of 57grs. of Re 19 with a Federal 215 primer. I don't have any pressure signs in my rifle but please start out with less powder. PaLuke

Perhaps it is a well kept secret, but H1000 with the heavy bullets in 25-06 does extremely well. I used to use mostly all Win LR primers, but recently I have been using Wolf LR primers to good effect as well.

Good Shooting,
Gary

IMR-7828 59gr. and the 117 grain Hornandy BR-2's primers, W-W brass 3.325oal factory Charles Daley Mauser 24"barrel 3200fps. Most accurate load in this rifle 1/4" at 100yrds 3 shots consistently, a lot of free-bore in this rifle. Load is 1/2 grain below book max Hornandy 4th edition. This is my son's rifle. He asked me if he had enough gun for Mule deer. At 320 yards a 1 shot DRT on big 3x3 dissolved his doubts.
